Have any of you read this book? I've recently read it following a review from a film critic who said the book was superior. I am glad I read it instead of going to the cinema.
It's difficult to explain without spoiling it. On one level it's about the relationship between three people who were friends from childhood, and the nievity of youth. On another it's about ethics and what it means to be human.
This is not light escapist reading, but If you fancy something different, emotionally heavy and though provoking, please consider giving this a go.

I've read this and really enjoyed it. My only problem with it was that I wanted more of it!

I thought Never Let me Go was a good book too.
Heartbreaking, frustrating but well written and tackled some difficult issues too. I was bewildered at how accepting the main characters were of their fates: but I suppose most of us just plod along on the path set out for us in society as well.
I haven't manages to watch the film yet; does it bring a different view to it?

I really liked this book. He is a fantastically skilled writer.

A really moving book that made me think about all the things I don't agree with in life but don't do anything about because we all tend to accept the way things are.

I am only half way through and finding it a bit hard going to get back into after a break, but then it becomes unputdownable

Good book, great film. I was happy enough to have seen the film first. It wasn't one of those where the book is clearly superior, because the film was so fascinating.
I've seen the film, and because I knew nothing about it, I was shocked. I spent the first half thinking I must have misunderstood.
I loved it, and must get round to reading the book.

I read that recently and while I thought it was very good, it left me wanting more... Does anyone know what I mean? I wanted to know more the why they were treated that way and why no one did anything about it. Like Kiery said, they were resigned to their fates.
Haven't seen the film yet. I always think I am going to hate KK but she is usually rather good in films.

I hated it. Difficult and beautifully written, in fact the pathos of the narrative weighed as heavily as the subject, but I did not enjoy it and wouldn't recommend it.

OH, I loved this book. One of rare books where I actually re-read sentences because the language was so beautiful.

Finally finished and just feel that it's a lovely book, slightly predictable and hard going in parts. Looking forward to seeing how the film has interpreted the characters

I loved this book. Thought it was amazing! so thought-provoking and well written.
I actually thought the film was a good adaptation, though it makes the moral issues so obvious from the start and I don't think you get the same shock-factor as you do from the book.

Disturbing, uncomfortable reading, but v clever and well-written. Not sure will see film, prefer light escapist films!

Great book, film not worth it.
mrsB just what I thought - lovely book, better than expected film (I usually dislike films of books I have enjoyed) but it was too spelt out too early. The characters were very well done though.
gabid, same author as the remains of the day (which is interestingly one of he few other film adaptations I have enjoyed)
