Tomorrow ds will be off to reception for the first time with shiny new shoes, smart new uniform and his brand new legal and forever name. Such a big boy and I'm so proud of him! Just thought I'd share :)

(For some reason it has converted my smiley face to question marks- didn't mean to imply any doubt about him having a fantastic time!)

My top tip for new reception starters- lots of snacks handy at the end of the day!

How did slkklet get on today?

Well, he came home on his minibus and did his usual not looking at me thing which he often does after he's been apart for a while or when he's confused. The escort asked if I was his mum and he said no (grr - did this at passport control once too). Doesn't mean anything by it, no is just usually his first response when a bit out of comfort zone. Anyway, she left him with me, asking me to tell mum what time pickup was tomorrow! But communication book says he had a good day, played happily with mainstream kids at lunchtime and ate all his food. So all is good. Exhausted though, getting ready for bed and seems to understand there is more school to.morrow (but followed by 'last one'). Poor kid doesn't realise this is it for 14 years. Still so proud of him, he seems like such a big boy compared to the nappy-wearing wild little monster who moved in 15 months ago.
