I used the butterfly one it was great for younger kids. eBay?

I would say anything that records the voice will do the job. Just personalise it with stickers so it looks fun. Good thing with that is you can get lots of photos in and can add to it as time goes on. Good luck!

As our lo was already 3 1/2 and we also did a DVD we didn't get a talking one but made a nice photo book using albelli online. It also gave us enough space to introduce siblings. He still loves it but asks why he isn't in it so I wish we'd put a few pictures of him in at the end.

No butterfly book? Shock

This is an adoption emergency. The Government should be told.

Agree with Devora BRING BACK THE BUTTERFLY BOOK!

Is no one writing to Tomy to ask why it has flown away!

Tula we did a butterfly book (sorry but we did) we also did a scarp book (ask me if interested) and a dvd (and a snugly - ask me if interested).

Good luck.

Thank you for your replies.
willis I like your idea about using stickers. I will definitely choose them when I know who I'm doing it for.
slkk I like what you said about adding more pictures with our dc.
Devora lol. You make me laugh.
Italian I like the scrapbook idea. What sort of size and things did you add to it. Im also interested in what a snugly is???

If anyone else oh has made an intro book not the butterfly one I would love you input also.
Thanks again

We made two. Wont mention the first, but the second was a soft album with felt animals attached that crinkle, beep etc. It was from amazon and has been a huge sucess. It's so hardy and tactile.

We swopped the front photo for one of the three of us in the first wk home.

Tula* I chose a big A3 scrap book, plain pages, ring binder I think. The idea was to show we knew him, so we filled it with pictures of stuff he liked (or we thought he liked) e.g. animals, trains etc and said what we would do when he came to live here. Actually, some of what we thought he liked was not right and we did not end up doing everything but it is early days (9 months in).

Snuggly is a soft thing like a blanket or soft toy that you sleep with in the bed for a few days or weeks and then hand over to the child (via social worker and foster carer) so that your smell goes on the item to the child. I was advised to wash the item in our normal washing powder and fabric softener and have it in the bed with me (snuggle it) and then send it over. I did. He was 3 so a bit old as it is maybe more for younger children and babies.

We chose a blanket with his name, date of birth and a picture on it.

We said he could use it for anything, play with, snuggle with, dress up in etc.

There was a thread on it here, will try to find it.

so we filled it... well not actually filled it, we did about a third of it, the idea was to add to it but we have since been given his life story book to add to as well so not sure if we ever will but we may.

I would also, if you do it, keep copies (Jpegs/scans/pdfs) of what goes into it in case it is every lost, damaged or destroyed so you could recreate it or at least have a record of it.

We keep electronic copies of stuff and back up our pc and keep the back up at my dh's work. This is important because stuff does get destroyed accidentally and with some kids these images/books/records of things may be more important than with other children's belongings.

Our ds still loves to book at and listen to his butterfly book.

Sorry i cannot find the snuggly thread, if interested start a new one and i am sure some will come along with ideas. It is good for young children as sense of smell is very important. The idea is your smell will be familiar to them.

We also did this when we got a kitten, we put a T-shirt DD had slept in, in the basket with the kitten before he came home to us.

Good luck.
