Childproofing for an older child

Hello, has anyone got any top tips on childproofing your home for an older child? My DSs psychologist has suggested that I should childproof the house as he is still helping himself to toiletries, scissors etc and is struggling with boundaries. The trouble is that he is six, very agile and clever - e.g. he is capable of picking a window lock on a UPVC window with a pointy object such as the axle from a toy car, and can climb and reach any shelf in my kitchen cupboards. I'm looking for ideas to keep things locked away from him but without it being too obvious or wrecking my kitchen cupboards. I don't think the standard childproofing things you can buy for toddlers will work as the ones we had all got broken or breached, but when I got a quote from a locksmith it was around 500. Ideally I'd still like to be able to use the scissors, and toiletries myself! Any experience you have to share would be gratefully received :-)

We have something called "Wot-locks" (or might be what-locks!) - they're catches to go on cupboards which can only be opened with the very strong magnet provided. Nothing shows on the outside of the cupboard. Would that be any good? Don't know where you're put the magnet mind!

Ooh, thank you, I'll have a look for those.
