Foster carer thinking of adopting

I may as well start a new topic on this. I am currently a LA foster carer thinking of adopting (not the child I have in placement unfortunately as they will be moving on). I think the process is slightly different, because some of the required background information has already been done. Has anyone recently gone through this? I have read some of the other threads, and the advice generally seems to be to ring various agencies to obtain information. I may as well add, I'm 50+ and single.

I'm going through adoption process at the minute, and one couple at my prep groups were a foster couple who were applying to adopt. They have to go through the whole process same as us, even groups and medical which they've already done. Every la might be different tho. Good luck

We are foster carers though we are adopting our fc.

We did attend prep course and medicals but found our assessment was a bit quicker as we had the same assessing sw which helped a lot. She used a lot of the background information from our initial assessment and updated bits where necessary.

The information required specifically for adoption panel was covered in full as if we were new applicants.

There were a couple of sessions during the training course which we were told we need not attend such as those covering matching but we preferred to go anyway.

There's now a two stage process and as a foster carer you would go straight to stage 2.

There would be a medical and training depending on when your medical was done and if the adoption agency wants you to attend training.
