The TapeWorm Of Time

All it would've taken is the citing of a preventative line
Yet still, all is absolved, like a tapeworm through time
As this s an adoption that slowly goes awry
With questions simply never asked, heard or reasoned why
Left are the wanting parents simply never in belief or in the know
Blind as to why their child's smile had to go

Same here, I'm sure a 'Tapeworm through time' is a metaphor for something, but I've no idea what.
