What cocktail would you serve to 30 guests at a party as a welcome drink?

Just that....if you were having a party what cocktail would you like to be served when you arrive?

It needs to be something we can have made in a jug rather than shaking a mixer individually for each drink etc

if it's any help we are over run with fresh mint in the garden!

Recipes please if anyone has any...thanks!

ShakeYourTailFeathers Fri 11-Jul-14 20:56:07

Mint + Jug made me think of Pimms - but is that a bit obvious?

Holdthepage Fri 11-Jul-14 20:56:48

Pimms. The recipe is on the bottle.

WanttoFindWorkLifeBalance Fri 11-Jul-14 20:56:54

Mojitos?

SuperGlue Fri 11-Jul-14 20:57:15

We are not in the UK so Pimms is not that common here, it could work but i have never made it before....

exWifebeginsat40 Fri 11-Jul-14 20:57:29

mimosas

olaflikeswarmhugs Fri 11-Jul-14 20:58:27

When I saw mint I thought mojito

SuperGlue Fri 11-Jul-14 20:58:49

Oooh interesting that the recipe is on the bottle. I shall have to look and see if I can get my hands on some.

Can Mojitos be made in bulk? I was at a party once where the host tried to make them in tiny quantities and it was torture!

Thanks for all the suggestions

I went to an Anglo-French wedding where they served two drinks during the photos: Pimm's and Kir Royale. It was a bit of cheap joke but the drinks were well received.

Bucks Fizz is quick and easy too.

SuperGlue Fri 11-Jul-14 21:00:35

I shall have to look mimosas

CantThinkOfAGoodUserName Fri 11-Jul-14 21:01:34

I had a pimms cocktail for first time last week and it was gorgeous! Really refreshing a a didn't really taste like alcohol so went down a treat, had mint and strawberries, banana, cucumber (?)

Pimms + Lemonade + fruit. That's the recipe grin.. Lovely on a hot day.

ShakeYourTailFeathers Fri 11-Jul-14 21:02:51

noooo not banana! Strawbs, mint, cucumber, orange and lemon peel is what I use.

RJnomore Fri 11-Jul-14 21:03:10

Bellinis.

Have the glasses all prepped just to add the prosecco as people arrive.

outtheothersidefinally Fri 11-Jul-14 21:03:17

The Hugo. Elderflower syrup, mineral water, white wine/prosecco. Serve chilled with mint leaves. Stunning drink!

Pimms is super easy and people love it, especially if they don't see it often. You need more than you think, though, and it takes a lot of chopping. If you put extra gin in it, people might be less likely to take three or four glasses before they really get going.

Another option is a honey/flowery champagne cocktail. Google the menu from the Harvey Nicholls cocktail bar - I can't remember what the honey/flowery liqueur is that they add to champagne with a little edible flower but it's lovely and if you can get hold of it, it is delicious and very easy but a bit unusual.

Peach schnapps, orange juice and cava/prosecco/Sekt/whatever your local fizzy wine is

MaryWestmacott Fri 11-Jul-14 21:05:03

pimms! Add clear fizzy lemonade (about 1 part pimms to 3 parts lemonade), apple, cucumber, and orange slices, some mint and some chopped strawberries and some ice cubes.

Serve in long glasses with a stirrer or a straw.

I thought pimms or black currant with sparkly wine
Something long and fruity - sex on the beach?

swooosh Fri 11-Jul-14 21:07:02

Aperol Spritz!

SuperGlue Fri 11-Jul-14 21:09:01

Thank you so much everyone! I am REALLY interested in the mojitos by the jug, the pimms and The Hugo (have GOT to try that one!)

May need to taste - test them before the party <hic>

SuperGlue Fri 11-Jul-14 21:09:57

Aperol spritz is a FAVOURITE of ours :-) but we were trying to do something a little less pricey!

Princesspond Fri 11-Jul-14 21:10:42

SuperGlue Fri 11-Jul-14 21:12:15

Oh! I have served those hisbicus flowers in a glass of prosecco for a dinner we had for 12 friends a few years ago, they are amazing!

HollyBollyBooBoo Fri 11-Jul-14 21:13:25

Second Bellinis or kir royal (Chombord with prosecco)

notnowImreading Fri 11-Jul-14 21:16:53

Ooh, Princess, that's not what I had but it looks gooood. Must investigate.

White sangria yum yum

BetterWithCheese Fri 11-Jul-14 21:17:31

I came on to suggest the Hugo as well. I had one last night for the first time and it was gorgeous. Here is a recipe.

RiverTam Fri 11-Jul-14 21:21:30

some kind of champagne cocktail. But not made with champagne unless you're loaded!

Slongette Fri 11-Jul-14 21:24:43

Moscow mule - add crushed raspberries for a raspberry mule. Yummy xx

Allalonenow Fri 11-Jul-14 21:29:00

Prosecco or your local fizz, with a range of friut liqueurs such as blackcurrant elderflower peach raspberry etc.

Not knowing where you are, it's hard to know what is available. France has several Pimms type drinks, and lots of fab fruit or flower liqueurs, and Italy is awash with wonderful treats.

I'm with the mojitos brigade. Or vodka and cranberry with a twist of lime.

panevino Fri 11-Jul-14 21:37:46

I made a jug of mojitos a couple of weeks ago and it turned out great...actually benefitted from sitting for a bit to let the flavours come out.

polkadotdelight Fri 11-Jul-14 21:42:42

We served pink fizz with hibiscus flowers as tge welcome drink at our wedding reception and it went down really well.

Pimms is great in the summer with all that pretty fruit to add interest, we had it at our wedding reception (a while ago now!) and it was fab smile

sammy90 Fri 11-Jul-14 21:46:51

Snowball hmmm yum grin

MrsWinnibago Fri 11-Jul-14 21:48:08

Mmm. All these cocktails are making me long for a decent bar instead of my lonely bottle of Chardonnay!

polkadotdelight Fri 11-Jul-14 21:51:02

Actually the new blackberry and elderflower Pimms is lovely too (but Ive only had a tiny sip because Im pregnant).

I've bought the hibiscus flowers for a couple of people for presents, but not tried them myself sad. I think perhaps I should treat myself smile

Billinis! Really simple and refreshing.

I hate Pimms!!

Taffeta Fri 11-Jul-14 21:59:27

To make Pimms if you can't get it you need....

Vermouth
Orange Curaçao
