It's really happening!
Am now admitted and on the ward, waiting to go and have a brain tumour removed.
They've got great free Wifi so it could be worse. I should be going to theatre about 11:00.

Mumof3xox Mon 07-Jul-14 09:11:54

Oh goodness

You sound so calm!

Good luck I hope it goes well

moobaloo Mon 07-Jul-14 09:18:06

Good luck

All the absolute best to you!

Trooperslane Mon 07-Jul-14 09:20:13

Have mine too x

Madsometimes Mon 07-Jul-14 09:21:06

Good luck smile

Very glad that you have wifi, that will make all the difference being able to contact the outside world. When I was in hospital I took a cheap PAYG mobile, but it didn't end up being cheap at all after all the credit I used communicating with friends and family.

Not too long now to wait.

Gen35 Mon 07-Jul-14 09:23:25

Good luck x

Munchkin08 Mon 07-Jul-14 09:24:39

Good luck x

I'm in a six bedded bay, one's gone to theatre on the same list as me, ones having bad news broken to her and her family in the day room, the rest look really poorly except the lady next to me who I've smiled at a couple of times and had no response.
Having just watched her holding out her hand and feeling for the table I think she's blind so that explains that.

WhoremoaneeGrainger Mon 07-Jul-14 09:37:36

Good Luck xx

hesterton Mon 07-Jul-14 09:38:13

MaryBennett Mon 07-Jul-14 13:25:19

Sitting in the sunshine with cup if coffee and making a toast for your speedy recovery. I'm sure you look lovely in your gown!

Madsometimes Mon 07-Jul-14 13:25:19

Oh that's horrible. Being kept waiting when you can't eat chocolate and drink tea is just not good. Hopefully not too long before you get seen.

BellMcEnd Mon 07-Jul-14 13:25:21

Poor you still waiting, Sauv. Thank goodness for wifi and MN! You're very chilled (like your name....?). Good for you!

LemonBreeland Mon 07-Jul-14 13:25:38

Good luck. You seem amazingly calm.

LemonBreeland Mon 07-Jul-14 13:26:03

Good luck. You seem amazingly calm.

Sauvignon, best of luck to you. In my thoughts.

Am feeling less calm as time goes on, I'm worried they'll run out of theatre time.

cardiandcrocs Mon 07-Jul-14 13:58:49

Oh sweetheart. Thinking of you.

Do carry on chatting on here as long as you can, especially when you feel the panic rising.

cardiandcrocs Mon 07-Jul-14 14:00:10

Oh & I'm holding your hand. Grip onto mine tightly.

There'll come a point when it will be too late to start my op, I don't think we're near that point yet but it's just started to enter my thoughts.

I had to get up at 05:25 to get here as well! hmm

cardiandcrocs Mon 07-Jul-14 14:09:12

Please try and push it from your thoughts.

Find something daft on the internet to read or watch. Or a mindless game.

Still holding x

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone Mon 07-Jul-14 14:12:22

Good luck x

LegoClone Mon 07-Jul-14 14:13:04

IAmANightOwl Mon 07-Jul-14 14:13:28

Thinking of you OP, hope it all goes OK smile thanks

Oh my God, I got excited then when a orderly arrived with a theatre trolley but it's for the woman in the bed next to me. sad

Thumbwitch Mon 07-Jul-14 14:41:10

Oh no Sauv, that's no good! Hope they take you down soon x

spiderlight Mon 07-Jul-14 14:44:02

Hope it goes well and that they don't keep you waiting too much longer.

It's visiting time now, I've told DH not to come back until tonight. sad

shouldnthavesaid Mon 07-Jul-14 14:47:56

I work on a neuro ward and in three weeks have seen probably a dozen patients have brain surgery to varying degrees. You'll be just absolutely fine - they'll look after you just wonderfully in the hospital. Lots of lovr today, all my thoughts are with you and your loved ones xxx

Thanks shouldnthavesaid, I feel fine about going down, I'm just worried that due to the time of day and the nature of my op, they may run out of time. That's what's bothering me.

WyrdByrd Mon 07-Jul-14 15:10:42

Just wanted to wish you all the very best for whenever it happens (hopefully v. soon).

thanks thanks thanks

PiggyPlumPie Mon 07-Jul-14 15:15:40

nannynome Mon 07-Jul-14 15:18:57

Hand holding from me too, good luck. If you do have a timing failure does that mean you need to figure out a way to tart up your gown tomorrow as you shouldn't wear the same one twice? Blown up rubber glove shoulder pads maybe?? ;-)

ChickyEgg Mon 07-Jul-14 15:23:49

Wishing you all the best too flowers

cardiandcrocs Mon 07-Jul-14 15:26:50

<hand holding>

Great idea nannynome grin
I got as far as theatre but after 45 minutes the consultant explained that the anaesthetist was still with a poorly patient and he could not tell how much longer that would take.
He said he can do me tomorrow and agreed that I could go home for the night.
Lots hope for better luck tomorrow, thanks for keeping me company! grin

Does this mean you have a window of opportunity to eat as much as possible before the next Nil by Mouth phase?

HappyMedium Mon 07-Jul-14 17:11:12

Oh what an anti-climax for you. So annoying and frustrating, i'm sure!

Home for wine grin

CarbeDiem Mon 07-Jul-14 17:59:59

Ah jesus! after all that waiting.
Hope tomorrow goes well and that you go down early. It's bloody awful sitting and waiting with your stomach lurching every time the porter walks onto the ward.
Good luck and best wishes for a speedy recovery Xxx

mummylin Mon 07-Jul-14 18:16:24

What a stressful day you have had. Hope they can do your op first tomorrow, good luck.

It won't be early tomorrow, it's an afternoon list. sad

MyFairyKing Mon 07-Jul-14 18:35:44

wine and cake for you tonight then, eh?!

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone Mon 07-Jul-14 18:41:18

Hope you have a relaxing evening.

SocialMediaAddict Mon 07-Jul-14 19:36:51

Wishing you all the best.

Oh bloody hell. I'm so sorry it didn't happen.

nannynome Mon 07-Jul-14 21:08:42

I vote we think of hospital games if you are going to have to sit around waiting for them again tomorrow. You could play I-spy with us or hangman on here. Take a selection of random hats/scarves/glasses and change every half hour and see if anyone notices... I think I am actually 13 mentally. Now I want wine too, enjoy yours x

I went out and had a 3 course meal and wine.
I looked a bit mad as still have my hospital ID bands and surgical site mark arrow on my neck. grin

NorbertDentressangle Mon 07-Jul-14 21:20:20

Oh gosh I just read this wondering how you had got on and got to the bit where you said it was cancelled. It seems unfair that you get all worked up for nothing and have to go through it again tomorrow.

I love the fact you've got your arrow 'tattoo' on your neck - is it really visible?

nannynome Mon 07-Jul-14 21:21:36

Awesome smile ooh if you have your surgery marks why not draw the little scissor symbol on that you get on packets of things by the dashes if you have them or leave a random note for the surgeon smile

What did you eat? When do you have to be nil by mouth again?

nannynome Mon 07-Jul-14 21:22:24

You could have second dessert, a bit like a hobbit's second breakfast but better...

scarffiend Mon 07-Jul-14 21:25:32

Best of luck for tomorrow!

I had pate, pork belly, Eton mess and coffee, with Sauvignon Blanc then Malbec.
I'll be glad to be Nil by mouth again tomorrow. grin

nannynome Tue 08-Jul-14 11:00:28

Odd that ;) currently feeding DS his lunch. He is covered in green goop and his new trick of wanting to drink out of a proper cup at 6 months has us both swimming in water! If you want to stay not hungry a picture of his goofiness might help ;) He is happy though! How's the hospital boredom going. Need to play I-spy yet? Does it look like they are going to get to you today?

Trooperslane Tue 08-Jul-14 11:15:15

Hope you get sorted today Sauv.

Still haven't seen anyone, not getting my hopes up.

OrangeyTulips Tue 08-Jul-14 11:56:15

It's not easy waiting around for surgery. I pace up and down when agitated - eventually the nurses had to tell me that I was making them nervous blush. Hoping you'll be called soon.

Madsometimes Wed 09-Jul-14 09:27:51

Morning! Hope you had a good night and haven't been poked about too much. I know that nurses seem to believe in getting their patients up early.

spiderlight Wed 09-Jul-14 09:49:53

You're amazing!! Hope you had a good night's sleep and are feeling better today

HappyMedium Wed 09-Jul-14 10:45:02

How are you feeling today? I hope not too groggy. Take it easy!

How are you doing today. I hope the painkillers are working.

Germgirl Wed 09-Jul-14 10:54:36

Sauv, you're a legend. smile Hope you're feeling ok today.

I didn't sleep a wink!
I'm a light sleeper anyway and all the noises were deafening, and being in the middle of a city there were ambulances oozing past.
The woman in the bed next to me is very demanding calling for "help" whenever she sees a member of staff, she has a buzzer but just shouts if she wants something - 5 times overnight! I think she may have an element of Dementia so I'm trying not to feel cross but I do feel tired.

One of the night staff, a Bank HCA had shoes that were too noisy, I told her in the morning, grin they were all very kind though.

I've tried to have a kip this morning but every time I close my eyes, the same nurse calls across the bay, it's quite a piercing accent here.

Germgirl Wed 09-Jul-14 13:17:28

Oh blimey. That's not good. Are you allowed ear plugs?
Apart from being shattered, how do you feel?

They've just suggested ear plugs Germgirl, I'll get some brought in, I've got written up for Zopiclone tonight, the neurosurgeons weren't keen at first but I managed to talk them round.
I'm pretty sore but feel better for having all my lines and catheters out.

How are you Germgirl, has the pain returned?

NCISaddict Wed 09-Jul-14 14:46:59

You sound remarkably cheerful for someone who's had major surgery, very impressive. As a veteran of nightshifts and therefore ear plug tester can I recommend the silicone ones from Boots, they're the only ones that allow me more than an hours sleep when on nights plus they're reasonably comfortable.

Germgirl Wed 09-Jul-14 15:17:31

Glad you're feeling ok. The earplugs & sleeping tablets will hopefully work together to let you get a good few hours rest tonight.
I'm ok, still in pain but not as bad as it was. I've had to phone & harass to get my urology appointment (maybe next week) but I'm doing ok. Thank you.
Like I said before, you're a legend! I'm so impressed with your attitude & outlook. You make me feel quite ashamed to be whining!
Take care, hope you have a good night x

I'm no saint, I can assure you!
I'm in some pain but it's really not that bad, all things considered, it's probably no where near as bad as renal colic.

I must remember to ask some question tomorrow, like when can my dressing come down, do I have stitches or clips?
I was just obsessed with getting sleeping tablets prescribed today.

Germgirl Wed 09-Jul-14 17:47:31

I can understand that smile

Madsometimes Wed 09-Jul-14 18:20:48

Have you got an if all goes well release discharge date?

I'm most impressed with MNing so soon after major surgery. That's going above and beyond the call of duty!

CarbeDiem Wed 09-Jul-14 19:11:32

Glad it went well Sauv. Hope you recover quickly and manage to get a good nights sleep tonight. Xx

spiderlight Thu 10-Jul-14 13:58:52

Hope you've had some sleep and are feeling a bit more rested today.

mummylin Thu 10-Jul-14 14:30:18

Glad to see you doing so well. Such a big op and nearly home already. It's amazing isn't it what the surgeons can do. Here's hoping for an excellent recovery.

Thank you Wildflowers. smile

Well I won't be going home on Friday.

The consultant came round at lunchtime, I was up and dressed and had been down to the hospital shop. He said "are you ready for home?". I couldn't believe it and checked that he meant today.

I began to wonder if I'd made a mistake and I hadn't really had a craniotomy after all and checked with the nurse. blush

She confirmed that I had, it's amazing! I'm tired and sore but I'm doing OK and am now at home!! grin

Thanks everyone for keeping me company. flowers
