So, DS would like a nice pen, and as he has a major birthday coming up we've started browsing.

And we found this little beauty at Jenners in Edinburgh

Well blow me, it is only £90,000 for a bloody pen!

TheNewSofa Thu 01-May-14 08:13:29

I take it you ordered it quick before it sells out?

CunningLingo Thu 01-May-14 08:16:37

I love the fact that for just £3.25 they will throw in some ink.

For that price I'd want it to take my exams for me! And I'd be sending it back if it wasn't getting straight As.

What a bloody rip off. Makes me feel cross that there are people out ther who would buy this, I don't care about their 'I can spend my money on what I like' crap. That kind of luxury takes it too far.

Clutterbugsmum Thu 01-May-14 08:21:47

Erm it does come with a life time guarantee.

Oh well in that case...

I wonder how many bic biros you could buy for that? Cause I bet that would beat the lifetime guarantee cost. grin

Wow, it is a beauty though! I have pen envy......

Imagine if you lost it though! God, you'd need therapy to get over it!

I lost a fountain pen at work. I was devastated and became irrationally convinced someone had stolen ithmm I didn't say anything to anyone but having looked absolutely everywhere for it that was the final conclusion my brain could come up with. I nearly wept with joy when I found it tucked in a filing box!

Lamy do lovely, more reasonably price fountain pens. I have several of the safari ones, the al star ones and the more expensive accent one. The al star ones are lovely colours and so nice to write with. The accent one is my favourite but it's weighty and I keep dropping it and damaging the nibs!

Bureau Direct is good for fountain pens and they do a 10% discount the first Wednesday of Every month if you sign up to the newsletter.

Is any one else reading the namenif the pen and internally reading it as "massiiiive". Therefore it should Benin neon colours and have a whistle on the end?

Just me then.

<<sidles out>>

CunningLingo Thu 01-May-14 08:40:42

Yo, part of the Jenners massif, innit, bro? grin

wineoclocktimeye Thu 01-May-14 08:45:14

shockshock but look, at least it's free standard delivery! (I'd want it delivered on the back of singing rainbow coloured unicorns for that price)

bouncinbean Thu 01-May-14 08:45:30

Lovely pen but crazy price!
Reminds me of the baby bobble hat I was admiring and thinking would be perfect for DD while in a ski resort, then saw it was 120 euros!!! For a hat with a pompom!

SoFetch Thu 01-May-14 08:48:12

this one is apparently $1.3m!

loveliesbleeding1 Thu 01-May-14 08:51:40

That reminds me, I must order a couple if those for some birthdays I have coming up, thanks sofetch wink

wineoclocktimeye Thu 01-May-14 09:03:48

I was thinking of getting some from the party bags for DS's birthday grin

wineoclocktimeye Thu 01-May-14 09:04:48

* for the party bags

Gileswithachainsaw Thu 01-May-14 09:06:27

Stuff that. I'd stick with the free Argos pens and an ikea pencil.

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance Thu 01-May-14 09:07:04

It looks uncomfortable to write with. I don't like that ridge. I like a smooth barrel.

So I won't be ordering one. wink

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance Thu 01-May-14 09:07:55

And that diamond one just looks nasty.

Preciousbane Thu 01-May-14 09:10:39

I can remember winning a set of caran d'ache colouring pencils at school. I'm mighty impressed now. Sets are 35 quid now, just had a google.

That pen is lovely but would have thought it would be solid gold at that price not just the nib.

figgypuddings Thu 01-May-14 09:14:46

You spend £90,000 pounds on a nice pen for your children then they go and lose them. I hate when that happens.

CunningLingo Thu 01-May-14 09:18:32

grin figgy

GreenMonth Thu 01-May-14 09:25:40

shock DS loses his fountain pen at least once every term, not temporarily missing, gone forever. And he has a problem with fine motor skills so he needs a good quality fountain pen not the cheapest one available. I wonder if the very expensive ones come with a satellite location device so that they can't get lost?

I recommend Cult Pens , DS uses Lamy pens which are lovely quality.

RabbitPies Thu 01-May-14 09:33:23

If I had a billion pounds in my account. I still wouldn't pay that for a pen. And certainly not for an ugly one like that.

Seatedhere Thu 01-May-14 09:37:46

Can't help but feel that the £3.50 ink cartridges are a touch déclassé. Surely they make a hollowed out precious gem version?

HoneyDragon Thu 01-May-14 09:42:38

You know that the Argos pens aren't meant to be taken right? grin

Although it might work in Jenners when sixty five beefed up security guards flatten you if you make a muffled plea from the bottom of the heap ....

"Sorry I thought this was Argos, I only wanted to order a toaster"

Gileswithachainsaw Thu 01-May-14 09:45:01

Nah it's more a case of kids picking them up and us not realising til we get home and hands are covered in ink
