penguinmum's creamy fish pie: smoky, seasonal fish in a creamy white sauce with grated, rather than mashed, tatties on top - a meal of the highest comfort-food order.

Is it OK to go halves on a bottle of Cava or too cheapskatey?

(20 Posts)
My friend is having a party for another woman whom I have met twice. It';s her fiftieth birthday party. It's a proper party with DJs and a five pound donation to get in.

I don't know what to bring and I am really broke.

I'm going with another friend and she says go halves on a bottle of Cava. I say it's mean and we should go halves on champagne or buy two bottles of Cava.

What do you reckon?

Ah, someone stripping.
But that's ok cos it's kind of post-modern eh?
Very Brighton
<snort>
I brought a special adults only cake. wink
My friend bought a half decent wine.

The party was fab. There were about a hundred or more people there. As well as DJs and a light show there were acts including a really tasteful and very beautiful burlesque stripper. shock

I'm shocked that anyone would have the cheek to have a party and charge for entry!

Aye, something like a bottarga grater.
She'd be thrilled. Not.
You should play to your strengths Moondog and bring her an obscure cooking utensil.

I also think having a party and charging is off.If you can't afford it, don't have it.
Or have something simpler.

Re gifts, I'm off to a significant birthday partry soon for someone quite well off. Some other women want me to club together to get her some sorft furnishings.

hmm

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
