Do B&Q not employ people with beards?

(36 Posts)
I'm sure I heard about this a few years ago, but was telling DH, he didn't believe me & now i can't find anything to back myself up.
Anyone know what I'm talking about?

DH is currently sporting a scratchy itchy 8 day old beard - he does it every year for Movember (charity - you grow a beard/moustache for November, I think in aid of prostate cancer charity?). I look forward to the 30th every year.

I had an American client years ago - large company planning to start an operation over here. Their planned recruitment policies said no facial hair, no dyed hair (at all), no jewellry including pierced ears, and no body odour - all employees to apply deodorant twice a day (!)
'the RN are allowed beards, but not moustaches. I know this as dh has a beard.'

why not moustaches? Beards without moustaches look very weird.
I loathe the unshaven look <shudder> with food trapped in it <boak>
rusty, your dh applied for a job on Mars, thats cool.
DH works at B&Q and has just confirmed there are a few people who have beards. So I guess that answers the question smile

Tesco dont allow them (or didn't when I worked there anyway) if someone came in with one the manager would either say they had to go home or that they would buy them value shaving foam and razors and let them shave in the toilets.
DH was once told by a recruitment agency that there was no point in him applying for a job at Mars unless he was prepared to shave his beard off.

He got offered another job, so we never got the chance to find out if it was true.

And slubber is right.

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
