right, I've started (again!) on weight watchers this morning.
spooky, be positive. I had around 3 stone (post baby weight) to lose at the beginning of the summer and joined WW and lost 1 stone. I'd wanted to lose more but had a stressful few months. I found that the weeks when I wrote down what I ate were the weeks I did the best.

I've just booked a short break to Dubai at the beginning of December so would be great to lose at least half a stone for then and then the rest of the stone by Christmas. Set youself smaller more achievable targets and you are more likely to stick to it.

Good luck

Come round here and I'll breathe on you grin

My flu/sickness bug means I haven't eaten more than a few bites of anything since Saturday. I have lost 4lb so far.

I think it's more than possible with sensible eating and exercise.

WW is a good plan with good support.

Wow, I'd not come across Food Focus before - just had a look at trillian's link and it looks really useful!
i think cutting my portion size will help.... im the same.... and i think infact i have been eating two or 3 times as much as i should at dinner time.

thanks for the link i will take a look once the kids are in bed and make a meal plan for the week.
Cutting down calories and exercising is the way forward, you will also be fitter and more toned so appear slimmer from the exercise.
Food Focus is fabulous and really makes you think about every mouthful.

meal ideas:

fresh fish wrapped in foil (with the addition of dill, lemon juice, slice ionion etc as per your taste) and baked in oven for about 20-30mins at 190 deg
serve with loads of fresh veg, salad

homemade soups - carrot and orange, lentil and tomato, mixed veg.

The food websites are useful for sourcing lowfat meal options try this

don't forget also that the portion sizes that we should all be eating are much smaller than most people realise (esp when you see how much pasta you get served in restaurants). I realised I was eating about the same as my 6'2" dh but by sinply cutting my portion size I noticed a big difference in my weight loss goals and soon enough your body adapts to the smaller sized portions and that's half the battle!
my diet isnt horrendous.... although i have terrible binging spells. Sometimes I dont feel i can controll my self and i eat 2 or 3 chocolate bars one after another.... usually when something stressful has happened.
Previously i have done no exercise what so ever and after two weeks i feel better in myself.

oh well i will try and lose a stone and if i dont suceed hopefully i wont be far off of it.

reallly want to look good for xmas and new year, plus my bday is 2 weeks after xmas so there is another incentive to try and lose a few lbs.... i think i need to lose 2 or 3 stone in total but 1 is a good start.

It depends on how overweight you are, and how bad your current eating habits are.

If you are currently very overweight and have an unhealthy diet, yes, you should be able to lose 1kg a week by eating healthily and in moderation. So yes, one stone is possible between now and Christmas.

Emphasis: To bold a word, surround it with asterisks, so *hello* will display hello. For underline use _ , so _hello_ gives hello. For italics use ^, so ^hello^ gives hello. To strike out a word, surround it with two hyphens either side, so --dog-- gives dog

Links and smileys: To insert a smiley face, , type [smile] or :)
For a big grin, , type [grin] or :o
For a wink, , type [wink]

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
