Quick poll: do you tip the supermarket home delivery person?

(56 Posts)
If you do how much?

That's it really.

You can say where you shop but it is not relevant to me.

I just don;t know what's the way.

thanks.

I never have done, we have our shopping delivered (by Asda) every two weeks.
No, mine is such a miserable bugger anyway - he never helps me and he walks acroos my lawn every single time which bugs the hell out of me. I will keep his tip to buy lawnfeed.

I do tip our milkman at Chrismas.

I'd never thought about it until I read this thread.... I hardly ever tip anyone though, although more down to not getting hair cut for several years/using taxis/answering door to takeaway delivery than meanness on my part I always tip in restaurants unless service is awful
Yes, but I live in the US where you have to tip everybody. $5.

When I lived in London, no.

Just been checking the websites (procrastinating as I should be cleaning the house) and found that sainsbury's drivers are not allowed to accept tips but I couldn't find specific information about other supermarkets.

Bit relieved actually as I wondered if the delivery driver would have been expecting a tip which was not forthcoming.

I tip my hair stylist and the girl who washes my hair there, I give the postie a Christmas tip as he's always really friendly and has been doing our round for years and I tip in restaurants. I don't have a weekly shopping delivery, it's a bit more spasmodic, but having read this thread, I would now consider giving a Christmas tip to the delivery guy as it's always the same chap and he's very helpful...will assess how cheery and helpful he is at Christmas after delivering tons of sprouts and heavy bottles to all and sundry!
oh god, never thought to tip them blush

and ours gets attacked loved by 10.5 stone woofa

i do tip hairdressers, taxi men, takeaway delivery, postie etc

part of me thinks, why tip,as they are being paid to do a service 9tho often min wage) but i do tip

No, not in cash or in kind (a la MamaG grin).

I bet my mother would, though. She tips everyone. Along with funeral-going, it's practically her hobby.

Emphasis: To bold a word, surround it with asterisks, so *hello* will display hello. For underline use _ , so _hello_ gives hello. For italics use ^, so ^hello^ gives hello. To strike out a word, surround it with two hyphens either side, so --dog-- gives dog

Links and smileys: To insert a smiley face, , type [smile] or :)

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
