When youve convinced your friend can you come round here and convince my husband. He despises mine, and I think its the best thing Ive ever come across. (Many thanks Mumsnet).

Me : they are very environmentally friendly
Her : a cup of period fluid
Her : gag
Her : sounds like a logical solution though
Her : have you tried one?
Her : if yuo layed down the period gunk would go back into your womb? ugugugugg
Her : splishing and splashing around as you walk
Her : heave
Me : lol, i havent tried one yet
i would think they may hurt when you sit down
Her : do yuo put it in the dishwasher afterwards?
Her : [sick face]
Her : your bf asks, "oh that's just my moon cup", your moon wah??

Husband: where are you going with THAT?
Me: to sterilise it.
Husband: in what? what are you going to sterilise it in?
Me: a bowl of hot water in the microwave.
Husband: a bowl? what? one of the bowls i eat my cereal in?
Me: yes probably.
Husband: so i could be eating my breakfast in that bowl tomorrow?
Me: well yes.
Husband: Urgh.
Me: well, the cup is going into boiling water, for 3 minutes in the microwave, hence it will be sterilised. The bowl will also be umm, well, sterilised. It will probably be the cleanest bowl in the house. But I will still put it in the dishwasher. Where it will be cooked at something like 160 degrees for well over an hour. So I think your cereal will be safe.
Husband: why cant you use tampons?
Me: well environmental reasons, and its nice to not have bits of cotton fluff left in your snatch, and theyre uncomfortable, and you need to remember to take them out with you, and theyre expensive, and you can get toxic shock whereas there have been no reported cases with a mooncup, and I dont want to.
Husband: I really dont like that thing.
Me: Oh dear. (Goes downstairs to sterilise mooncup in cereal bowl)

Thank you sooo much for making my day - this will surely be a classic!

The trouble is now everyone in my office is asking me what I'm laughing at - what on earth am I supposed to say!

BTW - are they any good - I'd be worried about leakage!
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By milkysallgone on Wed 19-Nov-08 15:10:15
Rempy - grin.

I boil mine in the milk pan.

Bwahahahaa! Mine gets boiled in a small pan that doesn't often get used otherwise (because it's a bit crap) but my mother still makes a fuss if she's round and sees it boiling away on the hob. You'd think she'd never bled...

arf at moon-cupa....grin
I have just got one and gave it a whirl for the first time last week - it is brilliant! Truly.
When I think of the money I have spent on tampons etc....

Shouldn't leak if you get the right size and you get good suction - there are instructions to follow.
Was worried about retrieval, but it was fine - even with the stem trimmed really short.
It does look a bit like a spatter movie in the loo bowl when you empty it....sorry, not selling it very well here. am I?? don't tell your friend that last bit grin

I heart my mooncup smile

Mmmm, quint. Buy one as a christmas present to self, and don't let him see you sterilise it.... You may get several months of him not realising that you have switched (not that Im talking from experience or anything...)

ooh could you be pregnant?

and yes how often do you sterilise?
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By rempy on Fri 21-Nov-08 22:09:34
well I may be a bit of a scrubber, but only before I first use it for a period - cos its been sat in its bag for several days before that festering, and at the end. But Im not really having periods, I have a new coil, so I'm bleeding on and off, couple of days here, couple of days there. (pain in the arse, and too much information!)
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Mum2OliverJames on Fri 21-Nov-08 22:16:57
I really bloody hope not quint as i split with my XP three months ago, i have had a light period since then and have the coil inside. i have taken a pg test and it was negative but i have another one to use in a few days.

i put it down to all the stress XP has caused me, his court date is next month so maybe i will get a period after that???

who knows, i hope so
i want to try out my mooncup grin

Emphasis: To bold a word, surround it with asterisks, so *hello* will display hello. For underline use _ , so _hello_ gives hello. For italics use ^, so ^hello^ gives hello. To strike out a word, surround it with two hyphens either side, so --dog-- gives dog

Links and smileys: To insert a smiley face, , type [smile] or :)
For a big grin, , type [grin] or :o
