Just phone your bank. They will be able to advise you. The charity should have given you a copy of the forms, you can phone them and tell them you've changed your mind. Cancel it with the bank aswell though.

i am not sure if you can cancel it util it has been going a month, because the charity pays the person that signs you up about £20+ for signing you up, they need to cover their costs

Sorry for you sad

You CAN cancel, it's illegal not to give someone at least 10 days thinking time.

You just need to call the bank, cancel the direct debit and if you feel you need to, call the charity and explain.

I'm not aware that the charity collectors get bonuses?

You can cancel it. DH did similar thing when we could not actually afford to (gorgeous tall blonde at the door) and we stopped it before it came out. Felt very guilty afterwards.

We didn't phone charity, just the bank. But the charity did phone us and wanted to know why we had cancelled it and would we reconsider.

I am not saying that i am right but i went door to door with a group of sales men for a bit signing people up to these charities (i wont say which one though as i now suspect they might have been wrong) we were told to tell them that they could only cancel after the first month.

if you have internet banking just go online and you might be able to cancel it that way. I had the same thing happen to me, but just went online a few days later (cant remember how long exactly but was before they were due to charge the first month) and cancelled it no problem. I'm with HSBC. Never had to pay a penny to the charity, I really don't know why I signed up for it in the first place.

So I'd suggest just calling your bank and cancelling it, or give it a few days and do it online.

tell your bank you want no new direct debits set up AND ring the charity to explain.
It takes 5-7 working days to set up direct debit so keep checking in order to cancel

Emphasis: To bold a word, surround it with asterisks, so *hello* will display hello. For underline use _ , so _hello_ gives hello. For italics use ^, so ^hello^ gives hello. To strike out a word, surround it with two hyphens either side, so --dog-- gives dog

Links and smileys: To insert a smiley face, , type [smile] or :)
For a big grin, , type [grin] or :o

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
