Sugar-free squash (with artifical sweeteners)
or squash with sugar in?

Before I get shot for some froot-shoot-related crime I should point out that I'm planning on feeding the chosen answer to DP, who hates to drink plain water. Very bad influence for future children, I know.

the 'with sugar' one...
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By TrillianA on Wed 19-Nov-08 14:25:31
That's pretty unanimous so far.. what's so bad about the artifical stuff? The way they say 'no added sugar' it sounds like it should be a good thing. [confused]

Squash with sugar

I stand to be corrected, but I have read/heard that a high % of artificial sweetener has to be used to ape the natural sweetness and usually it is aspartame which I would want to avoid ...

Nasty chemicals. Nowt wrong with a bit of sugar IMO

for me - not that anything is wrong with the artificial (although I have learnt abouit asparteme (sp) on MN). But I prefer the taste of ones with sugar.

Aspartame is the food of the Devil. That and pepperami (I'm having an anti peperami day today)

i would go for Rocks cordials which are nice. But we all drink dilute fruit juice.

artificial sugars are the very work ofthe devil.

Fwiw - sainsburys no sugar squashes and fizzy pop only have sucralose, not the other nasty sounding sweeteners beginning with 'a'

Sweetners taste minging.

"proper 100% fruit juice as a half and half"
Yep. Already drinking that too. And beer of course.

I just wondered where everyone stood on the aritifical sweeteners debate. So the majority believe that aspartame is evil, gives you brian tumours, makes you infertile, etc?

I don't fret about the whole "evil" thing, but I don't like the taste grin
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By TrillianA on Wed 19-Nov-08 15:02:15
Maybe I should do a blind taste test... grin

<bored, hence starting threads about trivial matters>

<bugger, wasn't someone complaining that newbies only start boring threads?>

I don't know aboutthe research. My opinion on the stuff derives from the fact that when my son has it he literally will bite his own arm, so distessed and adgitated does he become.
He does have an underlying disorder but I figure anything that can do that to his little brain is none too conducive to general health.

and trivial does not equal boring grin. I can be really boring on really exciting topics.
