Discussion on the effects of TV watching on children, reporting on Dr Tanya Byron's survey of 1800 Mumsnetters. Apparently, it has to be said that Mumsnetters are at the upper end of the social scale. . . .

"upper end of the social scale" - I heard that while listening to Radio 4 in the car on the way back from work.
I don't consider myself to be in the "upper end". I'm a houseowner with an income of under £25,000. Hardly makes me rich! Middle class perhaps, but not upper.

Apparently the results don't hold good for the general population because we are all so posh there's a sampling bias. angry <adjusts Northern chip on shoulder>

When I were a lass, me dad worked 48 hours a day down pit and we 'ad scrapings from the shop floor for us tea, tha knows.

Mine hasn't but that's because a. this morning he was playing with his ever-so-educational Cbeebies comic (kind of gives the game away, really) and b. he's been in school ever since. grin

Erm, I'm not posh.

But saying that, you know not all working class mums sit their kids in front of the TV all day long whilst they Mumsnet and eat off their knees. I know lots of middle class mums who do this.

In fact round here, most kids are likely to be playing out, whereas in the posher estates you never see kids playing out. Those are the ones glued to the telly!

It was 2000 MNetters on BBC Breakfast TV yesterday! Obviously had to lose 200 more downmarket MNetters to qualify for R4 ...

I listened to this today & allowed myself a gentle snort. Then wondered how truthful foks had really been.

IME no mother will admit to letting their darling watch cbeebies, unless another mother admits it first.grin
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By ilovemydog on Wed 19-Nov-08 21:04:19
But the fact that people won't admit to their children watching C Beebies is an indicator in itself?
