Do you own and use a butter dish?

A bit of a random question I know but I misread something as butter dish and it made me think.

I do, every day. It was a wedding gift.

Do you have any wedding gifts you didn't think you'd use but now use all the time?

I got one following on from a MN thread about owners of butter dishes!

Thanks MN

Mine is ceramic. Black base, cream cover with 'butter' written on in black. Love it!

Yes and yes

Misty9 Sun 31-Aug-14 20:23:35

Our wedding set one broke and I really want another!

Intrigued about MN thread re butter dish owners...

Yes I do own a butter dish.
It's a cheap one from tesco's but I now wonder how I managed without it.
Same as my milk pan. I love my butter dish & milk pan

HygieneFreak Sun 31-Aug-14 20:25:15

No i buy spreadable butter.

Does the butter not go off if left out of the fridge?

MrsPnut Sun 31-Aug-14 20:25:18

I have an orange le crueset butter dish and it sits on the work top on all but the hottest days.

It always has unsalted butter in it for cooking and baking with, we buy the president spreadable stuff for sandwiches and toast.

Yes. I gave up margarine last winter, after reading on MN about exactly how vile it is. I'd never liked it, TBH. Butter is much better & so yummy! My dish is glass & goes either way up.

Yes. I only use it in Autumn/Winter/Spring.

In the summer we have spreadable butter.

Do I fuck. That's what the tub's for.

I am the proud owner of a Douglas the Butter Man toast rack, though. smile

Nomama Sun 31-Aug-14 20:27:54

Yes and yes. It was a wedding present, 25 years ago, and is used every day.

We have never used butter substitutes, they are gross!

calzone Sun 31-Aug-14 20:28:31

Yes.

Tis white and lovely.

LegoCaltrops Sun 31-Aug-14 20:28:34

HygieneFreak no, only if the weather is really hot. Or if you don't really use it much. I get through about a block a week & it's fine.

Bartlebee Sun 31-Aug-14 20:28:36

We still use our wedding butter dish.

We went through a phase of using spreadable stuff you keep in the fridge, we thought we were doing the right thing, but a cardiologist friend put the fear of God into us about how unhealthy they were.

Butter tastes so much nicer too.

We have a butter dish, it's ceramic. I made it at a pottery evening class.

Yes and yes. I bought it in Berlin. I was a bit gutted when I dropped the lid on the hob and it broke, but it was only in two pieces, and I've glued it back together.

My toast rack is rubbish, on account of not having slots wide enough to take a slice of toast. (Big design flaw there.)

yes & yes, it's the third one I've owned since leaving home 22 years ago. I first was a cheapie, the second a Bridgewater which was a wedding present (sadly broken), & I have a Keith Brymer Jones one now. I love butter, never ever ever buy anything else!

Yes and yes. Also a lovely old silver plate toast rack which I use every day at breakfast smile

BoiledEggandToastSoldiers Sun 31-Aug-14 20:30:45

Yes and yes. It's an Emma Bridgewater Black Toast one.

It sits on the worktop, we have quite a warm kitchen as the AGA is always on, butter has never gone off.

krazipan Sun 31-Aug-14 20:31:00

Yes and yes. My current one was a birthday present!

Smilesandpiles Sun 31-Aug-14 20:31:05

A white ceramic one. Not a wedding gift but one I bought since I gave up spreads in favour of butter.

FarelyKnuts Sun 31-Aug-14 20:31:21

Yes. It's ceramic with red roses and matches our mugs and teapot and milk jug.
It's always on the counter and has real butter none of that fake crap

Trills Sun 31-Aug-14 20:31:28

I love my butter dish.
