Pin number reversal. ATM machine

apparently all atms have a reverse pin recognition system.

for example if your pin is 1234 and you input 4321 the atm will give the cash but police will be despatched to the location.

presumably this is incase you are being robbed and forced to input your pin number.

has anyone else heard of this or is this just a myth.

obviously I wouldn't try this unless necessary (hope it never is) just curious really...

It's a myth

Urban legend

Peanutbutterfingers Sat 23-Aug-14 17:11:25

So what would happen if your pin was 1111? Or 1221?

Big. Fat. Myth.

ha. as I suspected.

not true

Oh, honestly! Bless you, OP, but how could it possibly be true?!

Petitgrain Sat 23-Aug-14 17:25:58

Jesus wept.

PoirotsMoustache Sat 23-Aug-14 17:27:48

My pin is the same whichever way you put it in. So either there are lots of police officers screeching to a halt a few minutes after I leave the cash machine each time I get money out, or it's a myth grin

ToriaPumpkin Sat 23-Aug-14 17:31:57

It's bollocks. Mine is a palindrome and nobody has ever come to save me from muggers yet!

I don't understand how people actually believe stuff like this

Oh, don't worry and don't get so fussed! It's just that it's one that's done the rounds for ages so most people have heard it.

Snopes is generally good if you think something sounds a bit suspect.

But I want to see the Charge of the Police Brigade appearing over the horizon, truncheons waving. sad

I am obsessive about shielding my PIN, though. Elaborate gymnastics with purse and cardi and touch-typing under the shroud of secrecy.

I am worried about those skimmer things too - I don't like ATMs with the little rubbery threshold flaps. They ooze evil intent.

NamesNick Sat 23-Aug-14 17:42:12

but I read it on facebook. ..surely MUST be true wink

Stratter5 Sat 23-Aug-14 17:45:09

Snopes is your friend.

I've been caught out loads, I check on Snopes first, now

NamesNick - one of the reasons I avoid Facebook like the plague. grin

It's a shame, because I never get to hear about what my friends are having for dinner, or when they have just farted. I do miss out. sad

PixieofCatan Sat 23-Aug-14 17:49:45

It's a myth, I've had a pin in the past that was the same forwards and backwards.

PixieofCatan Sat 23-Aug-14 17:50:03

Needless to say, when I said that on FB I was called a liar!

ScrambledEggAndToast Sat 23-Aug-14 17:52:05

Hahahahah gringrin Sorry OP but I can't believe you actually believe that.
