Things you still call by their 'old' name

Marathon to Snickers? No problem.

Ulay to Olay? I can just about cope with that.

By why will my brain refuse to accept that it's Starburst not Opal Fruits?

What names do you still call things so that your kids look at you like confused

LittleBearPad Sat 23-Aug-14 09:32:05

I was going to say Opal Fruits!

Also Jif. It will never be Cif to me.

Haha...I was going to say opal fruits too! Infact my kids even call them opal fruits too!!

AuntieStella Sat 23-Aug-14 09:33:48

My DM still says wireless for radio, and that means I do it sometimes too (particularly when staying with her), and that really puts the tilt lights on for the DC.

And although I see the letters 'Cif' it's still 'Jif' to me.

Opal fruits

picnicbasketcase Sat 23-Aug-14 09:34:28

Opal Fruits definitely, I just can't get Starburst to sound right to me. And they've been called that for about twenty years shock

AuntieBrenda Sat 23-Aug-14 09:34:37

Opal fruits
Videos instead of DVD
Tape it instead of record on sky+

Iggi999 Sat 23-Aug-14 09:41:57

Walkman blush

WestEndGirlie Sat 23-Aug-14 09:45:54

AuntieB I still 'tape' stuff!

ElephantsNeverForgive Sat 23-Aug-14 09:46:51

Safeways for Morrison's.

Used it a lot under it's old name, but with internet banking, I don't need to go that way and end up in bigger Tesco.

Chimchar Sat 23-Aug-14 09:47:36

opal fruits here too!

marathon bars.......until a younger colleague looked at me blankly and then said something about that's what her mother called them.......witch!

insancerre Sat 23-Aug-14 09:50:45

Dime bars

Eminybob Sat 23-Aug-14 09:51:12

Oil of Ulay
Opal fruits
Taping stuff off the telly

There is other stuff, I can picture some young uns raising their eyebrows at a few things that have come out my mouth, I'll be back when they come to me.

Sicaq Sat 23-Aug-14 09:52:13

Interesting about Opal Fruits: do all the Young 'Uns call them that, too? If so the rebranding failed big time.

Taping, too. That said, I had the reverse when I heard myself saying I needed to update my milk. I meant I needed to buy fresh milk; don't know where the feck "update" came from.

mumofboyo Sat 23-Aug-14 09:52:17

Buns not cupcakes.

cherry219 Sat 23-Aug-14 09:52:51

Bounty not Plenty
Littlewoods not Very

Eminybob Sat 23-Aug-14 09:53:02

Actually opral fruits as that's what I thought they were called as a child and although I know it's opal I still say opral

Eminybob Sat 23-Aug-14 09:54:39

I didn't know some if these were the same thing ie Safeway/Morrisons and littlewoods/very.

picnicbasketcase Sat 23-Aug-14 09:56:05

Oh yes, agree re Bounty too. Plenty is a stupid name. Did it get changed because people were going out to buy kitchen rolls and accidentally coming home with coconutty chocolate?

HangingBasketCase Sat 23-Aug-14 09:58:19

My mum still calls Emmerdale Emmerdale Farm, she always called GMTV TVAM as well, not sure what she calls it now though? My dad still calls the radio a Wireless

EndoplasmicReticulum Sat 23-Aug-14 09:59:12

I asked my husband to " tape" a TV programme for me the other day when we haven't had a video since about 1999.

My mum used to call the shop, Debenhams in Bristol, 'Jones's' because that was what was originally there some 60 years ago.

50p was 10 bob, etc.

I'd have to ask the kids what outdated names I use, because they seem right to me. wink

northernmummeh Sat 23-Aug-14 10:00:31

Lol it's still emmerdale farm in this house too!
