"Is there any more cabbage? It's absolutely delicious."

DS16 this evening, stuffing his face with spiced chicken, rice & the delicious cabbage.

There wasn't (any more) & it was (delicious)

When I tidy my bedroom I just want to sing and shout as it makes me so happy

YellowTulips Fri 08-Aug-14 20:55:28

"Thank you"

"I have just cleaned my room"

"I think I'm spending too much time on Facebook - maybe I'll get some fresh air"

"Can I help you with that?"

VegasIsBest Fri 08-Aug-14 20:57:29

Let me load the dishwasher this time .......

- Can't actually believe that my kids are so spoilt they won't do this. It's not like they have to wash up by hand. And worst thing is that I have no one to blame but myself :-(

RJnomore Fri 08-Aug-14 20:58:06

"I really appreciate everything you do for me and all the money and time you spend on me"

"I think I'll have an early night, I will just leave my phone and iPad here so I don't get distracted"

"oh no, not takeaway, can't we have a stirfry?"

Shinyshoes2 Fri 08-Aug-14 20:58:23

" you keep your money I don't want it all for cogs and JD you treat yourself "
" I'll Hoover / polish / tidy/ clean the skids from the loo "

"Thank you for spending over an hour marking my essay in minute detail, Miss, I will follow all your advice and suggestions when re-drafting and not just print off my first draft again and hand it in completely unaltered."

Delicious Cabbage recipe

One cabbage, shredded (dark ones are best)

Put a small amount of water in a lidded pan with a knob of butter, bring to the boil, add the cabbage & put on the lid.

Simmer for about 15 mins, stirring occasionally, add a little more water if it's getting dry, then season with salt & black pepper, plus a pinch of ground nutmeg, garam masala, cumin or mild curry powder if you like (I didn't bother tonight), mix it all around, make sure cabbage is tender, add a glug of cream or soured cream (about a tablespoonful) & mix, make sure any excess water has evaporated then serve. It keeps warm for ages without spoiling.

I got the recipe from an old cookery book by Jane Grigson

'My new school shoes really hurt me on my heel and pinch my toes. They definitely won't give me 3 different types of blister in 3 different places, and they were definitely worth the money.'

TheWhispersOfTheGods Fri 08-Aug-14 21:12:19

'yes, that's a really good point, I'd not thought of that. I'll do as you suggest'

'thanks for your advice, it's really good to have the benefit of your experience'

'You're right, I might regret posting all of my teen angst and private life all over Facebook when I'm an adult and can see I might be being a bit unreasonable, I'll just delete it, and delete my Facebook for good measure. I see all my friends at school or at the weekends anyway.'

'I was wrong in this instance, sorry for getting arsey!'

No, I think I'll leave my hair it's natural colour and not dye it blue with purple ends' (this bit of teen rebellion I wholeheartedly support though! )

TheFirstOfHerName Fri 08-Aug-14 21:18:22

"I know it's the holidays, but I'm going to go and do some Latin grammar, as it's the subject I'm least confident about and the core language exam is next summer."

<He actually said this! And did some!>

Nerf Fri 08-Aug-14 21:22:00

I've just I tidied my room, do you know where the Hoover is?

I would love to come out with you and the little ones today, maybe I could give you a hand?

EverybodyKeepCool Fri 08-Aug-14 21:22:13

DS 14 - "Mary Berry's all in one sponge recipe really is my preferred way of baking a cake"

RJnomore Fri 08-Aug-14 21:23:59

Nerf my dd says the first and last on your list!

greeneggsandjam Fri 08-Aug-14 21:24:20

Mum, can we do a bit of maths practice so I don't get behind over the holidays.

I'm just going to read a book.

I think I'll write a letter to someone.

Would you like a cup of tea?

Don't worry, you did the cooking, I'll clear up and wash up.

Oh, yes it is getting late. I better be going to sleep now.

I think I'll read tonight instead of going on the internet.

I'm just going to tidy my room.

D you need anything?

You look really tired, let me do that for you.

How was your day?

Shall I tell you what I did in school today?

MorphineDreams Fri 08-Aug-14 21:26:46

I think it's sad teens don't say some of the things in your post green I always said all of those! And I was no goody two shoes either

partialderivative Fri 08-Aug-14 21:27:17

"What time would you like me to wake you in the morning?"

TheFirstOfHerName Fri 08-Aug-14 21:27:37

What I'd like to hear:

"When my younger siblings annoy me, I'll try to ignore them or walk away rather than shouting and escalating the situation."

tigerdriverII Fri 08-Aug-14 21:27:47

All my dirty socks are in the laundry basket, I can't abide it when they're lying all over the floor. I feel that way about soggy towels too - the state some people leave their bathroom!

cashmiriana Fri 08-Aug-14 21:29:38

"I can't go out until I've done my Physics revision and some music theory."

"Thanks for taking me shopping for school shoes today."

"I really need to go to the library as I've got nothing new to read."

All actually said by DD1 this week.
I like my teenager!

FantaSea Fri 08-Aug-14 21:30:47

enriquetheringbearinglizard Fri 08-Aug-14 21:32:19

Things I never heard a teenager say

'I put some petrol in'

'I really don't need a contract, I'd be better on PAYG'

'the dishwasher needs emptying. Let me do that now'

Infact I never heard I'll do that now. Ever.
