Just read on the internet that a newborn baby is about 50cm long. Wtaf?? Surely that cant be right?

How tall are you? How tall is babys dad and how tall was your newborn? Im 5'2 & babys dad is 6'2. I dont want a 50cm baby!

I had my son last year, he was 16 weeks early & was 33cm long. But surely babies cant be 50cm long? Thats near enough as big as my entire arm!!

Dd was 51cm and DS was 57cm...mind you, he's not even 3 months and is getting too long for 3-6 month babygros

Eh? Thats nearly a metre! No way was my baby that big! Can't say I stood her up and measured her grin But she looked tiny.

Just saw your other questions, I'm 5'5 and DH is 6'3

Haha puds, 50cm is only half a metre!

DS was 54cm and 8.11, born at 39 weeks. He has always been on the 90th centile for weight and height so think it's big but still pretty normal. Maybe they don't seem that long as they're more scrunched up!

OscarWinningActress Tue 05-Aug-14 23:44:47

I think that's trying to measure their 'height' completely stretched out, OP, which they never are.

freelancegirl Tue 05-Aug-14 23:45:12

Oh - I'm 5.5 and Dh is 6ft.

SistersOfPercy Tue 05-Aug-14 23:46:23

I'm old school, so this centimeter lark is beyond me but ds was 21 and a bit inches. Can't remember what dd was but I think she was around the average 19 inches.
Ds is now 21 and a perfectly average 5ft 10"

steff13 Tue 05-Aug-14 23:47:10

My babies (3 of them) were 21-23 inches long. I think that's 53-58 cm. I'm 5'8.5", my husband is 5'11". My 15 year old son is already 5'10". He was the shortest of the three at birth. smile

fortyplus Tue 05-Aug-14 23:47:41

Ds1 57cm, ds2 60cm!! But they've both ended up 6'2" smile

rachyconks Tue 05-Aug-14 23:48:13

DD 54cm
DS 57cm

Me - 5'6"
DH - 6'0

Shazam24 Tue 05-Aug-14 23:48:21

Omg! Doesnt that seem massive? Ive measured 50cm on my stomach, it leads up to my neck! 40cm at the most will do me lol! 57cm :O

taxi4ballet Tue 05-Aug-14 23:52:24

Shazam, they don't lie flat inside you, they are curled up!!! Anyway, it's not their length you want to think about it's the size of their head...

My dd 45cm, a week early.

usualnamechanger Tue 05-Aug-14 23:52:55

58cm. Almost 43 weeks pregnancy. I'm 5'2'' only.DH 6'0 DC never used newborn sized clothes.

hollie84 Tue 05-Aug-14 23:56:40

I have no idea! I don't remember either of mine being measured.

Anyway, it doesn't matter how long they are, you only need to worry about how wide they are grin

Shazam24 Tue 05-Aug-14 23:57:23

Haha, yes your right taxi4ballet lol. Was getting frightened then! Aw i wanted a small baby! Me & my sisters were all tiny babies. Dp & his brothers were all massive babies. I was hoping id have a petite baby.

ZweiPfennig Tue 05-Aug-14 23:58:36

DD was the longest child in the hospital.

63cm. Skinny as and only just the right weight so they didn't worry.

She's taller than me and reaches down stuff for me now she's adult.

Dd1 was 52cm and dd2 57cm. Dd1 has been tallest in her year the while way through primary. Dd2 is only 6 months but I assume she'll be similarly blessed.

Besides, it's not length you worry about, it's the width of the shoulders...

grocklebox Wed 06-Aug-14 00:01:17

51 cm.
How is this an aibu exactly?

grocklebox Wed 06-Aug-14 00:01:41

and why the fuck would you want a small baby?

ohdearitshappeningtome Wed 06-Aug-14 00:03:39

Ds was 50cm but they don't measure length anymore. We measure him ourselves

Sarahplane Wed 06-Aug-14 00:04:17

I'm not sure how long dd was but ds was 60cm and 9lb11.5 I'm 5'5 and dh is 6ft. Ds is nearly 3 but has been in 3-4 clothes since before Christmas.

Bumply Wed 06-Aug-14 00:04:55

DS2 was 60cm long. Made breastfeeding interesting, particularly in the rugby ball position. I had to have many pillows to allow for the rest of him to fit behind me. I think he went straight into 3month clothes, but with all the newborn floppiness to contend with.

I'm 5'5, DH is 6ft.
Dd2 was only 32cm long, full term, weighing 6lb7oz.
(I cant remember how long the other three were!)
