and failed to make it to its intended destination. Disappeared over a conflict zone in Mali. Barely any coverage yet, despite it having been meant to arrive around 5am.

No news on BBC?

Bowlersarm Thu 24-Jul-14 11:40:49

Do you have any other details, Bristol?

Thenemesisofthevole Thu 24-Jul-14 11:40:57

It's breaking news on the BBC website just now.

JazzyThistle Thu 24-Jul-14 11:43:12

This is so sad, fingers crossed it's just a technical blip.

TurboWithAKick Thu 24-Jul-14 11:47:42

So how long has it been missing now?

EverythingIsAwesome Thu 24-Jul-14 11:48:37

About 8 hours I think?

foolishpeach Thu 24-Jul-14 11:49:20

sad This is such bad news.

sad The world is getting scarier by the day.

TurboWithAKick Thu 24-Jul-14 11:49:34

Glad I'm not flying anywhere anytime soon! The whole world seems so 'unpredictable' right now. Just read the statement from the Australian family so feeling very sad and wary of everything to do with flying

I'm hoping and praying this is just a 'glitch' and that the plane will be found.

I'm feeling extremely uneasy as I'm flying in a couple of weeks.

AuntieStella Thu 24-Jul-14 11:55:20

It should have landed in Burkina Faso around 0500 local time (which I think is GMT, so 0600 BST).

TurboWithAKick Thu 24-Jul-14 11:56:09

It was told to take a detour... How strange, probably quite normal but told to detour to avoid a collision

AuntieStella Thu 24-Jul-14 11:59:06

I don't think it can be a 'glitch'

If it was still in the air, surely it would be spotted (as systems and their operators would be tasked to look). It has not landed anywhere with communication systems, as no-one knows where it is.

So probably on the ground in unknown location and with no means of making contact.

BristolRover Thu 24-Jul-14 11:59:46

understand that the aircraft was "elderly" and a model which has long been retired.

EverythingIsAwesome Thu 24-Jul-14 12:00:53

It was asked to detour due to low visibility to avoid colliding with other aircraft, then went missing, at about 2am GMT. Not looking hopeful sad

Crikey sad
