Please help my daughter choose a movie to show at her birthday party next week. Her only requirement is that it MUST be a 12 certificate (because she's going to be 12).

Guests are a mix of boys and girls. Some easily scared ... others have seen it all before. Needs to be easily available on Amazon grin.

Is Blended out on DVD /Netflix yet? 12 , starring Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler very much a family fun film.

Or what about the Hunger Games?

ThinkIveBeenHacked Fri 11-Jul-14 15:30:01

Oh maybe not HG if they scare easy

AChickenCalledKorma Fri 11-Jul-14 15:36:43

grin I think the group will be equally split between those who have already maxed out on Hunger Games and those who won't cope with it. They're an awkward bunch!

Will look at Blended, tho.

Pitch Perfect?

Mine is mad about the fault in our stars and hunger games, not sure the first would go down so well with boys.

My almost 11 year old ( going on 16 ) loves Hunger Games, we have only watched the first one, can't wait to watch the 2nd. She also loves the Harry Potter films ( I think one is a 12 ).

I showed Forrest Gump to a group of 11 year old boys yesterday and they absolutely loved it. It does have one 'fuck' in it, though, which I didn't expect from a 12 :/

In this house, the favourites are stupid Adam Sandler/Will Ferrell style comedies. Think Blades of Glory, Happy Gilmore, Grown Ups, etc. They are slightly naughty for an 11/12 year old so makes them laugh.
Also my kids really like The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

smile this is good ... keep 'em coming!

Go with grown ups! It will appeal to boys and girls and will be cool! There is some swearing but that's inevitable! Goonies is a pg and has swearing!!!

Chimchar Fri 11-Jul-14 16:17:31

Was going to say pitch perfect, but I think it's a 15.

School of rock is one of my faves.

What about some older films...ghostbusters? My 13 yo has just been introduced to Wayne's World, and loves it!

I would vote comedy over scary....

James Bond?

My dd likes Titanic and Romeo and Juliet. Not sure they would go down with a mixed audience, though.

MillyONaire Fri 11-Jul-14 16:28:19

Fast Girls
Bruce Almighty
Liar Liar
The Truman Show
Back to the future
The Breakfast Club
The Princess Bride

KikitheKitKat Fri 11-Jul-14 17:08:55

oh yes definitely The Truman Show!

My DD is 12 and she loves Grown Ups / Grown Ups 2

And it has Adam Sandler in it.................grin

Sparklingbrook Fri 11-Jul-14 17:15:32

Dumb and Dumber?

hugoagogo Fri 11-Jul-14 17:17:11

ds loved Gremlins when he was that age, it's a 15 though, but I really don't think it should be and I usually anal am a stickler for such things.

Hillbilly71 Fri 11-Jul-14 17:33:49

Ahhh don't do what I did! My dd in yr7 but summer birthday so got my daughter to get the mobile numbers (of a load of Mums I had never met)and texted that was 'Wild Things' Ok for them to watch since they were just 12?
Then realised with mounting horror that it was Wild Child (12). Wild Things (18) completely different film!! Very hasty text to the Mums with grovelling apology! Great first impression, my dd mortified!

Chimchar Fri 11-Jul-14 17:59:35

Cool about pitch perfect being a 12! My 10 and 7 yo have watched it and have no idea about the few shifty references in it!
