It's school disco season - which songs don't you want your DCs hearing?

Blurred Lines obviously, but anything else which is likely to be played that might have dodgy lyrics?

Timber (is it by pitbull?..) - listened to it properly once on headphones whilst jogging - terrible IMO

Is that bad? I had no idea - just goes to show how much you actually hear, doesn't it? I'll have a listen...

withaspongeandarustyspanner Wed 09-Jul-14 21:13:35

Oh yes. Well I never!

LittleBipper Wed 09-Jul-14 21:13:49

Not a disco age yet but it was quite funny in soft play when the first few bars of Blurred Lines came on and was hurriedly stifled!

IWannaHoldYourHand Wed 09-Jul-14 21:16:07

The Katie Perry one about birthdays.

I like us better when we're wasted...

Frozen. "Let it go"

The man who does our club disco plays it and the children do Karaoke to it.

The kids love it, but it drives me mad! Fed up with that song now grin.

Milkshake by Kelis

staedtlerpen Wed 09-Jul-14 21:17:41

This contains the charming line 'What do you do with that big fat butt?'

withaspongeandarustyspanner Wed 09-Jul-14 21:17:50

Oh yes - all that talk about Birthday suits and big balloons! Maybe I'm reading too much into that, though.

ArfurFoulkesayke Wed 09-Jul-14 21:18:09

Y1 end of term dance routine was to Timber. I downloaded it at DD's behest, we listened, I deleted. "Face down, booty up"? No thanks!

Hedgehog80 Wed 09-Jul-14 21:18:22

I'm dreading dd2 ever going to a school disco, she has some, ahem, 'interesting' dance moves (and I have no idea where she got them from but they are far too grown up).

MirandaWest Wed 09-Jul-14 21:18:25

Tbh some of the songs there were when I was that age weren't exactly great but either I didn't hear or didn't understand the words (Relax and Like a Virgin being the first two that come into my head).

Maria33 Wed 09-Jul-14 21:18:38

We're up all night to get lucky...

IWannaHoldYourHand Wed 09-Jul-14 21:20:42

The Katie Perry one about birthdays.

NotEnoughTime Wed 09-Jul-14 21:20:47

Like A Virgin
Smack Your Bitch Up
Sex On The Beach
Push It
are songs that spring to mind showing my age grin

IWannaHoldYourHand Wed 09-Jul-14 21:22:24

Not sure how that double posted. I must really loathe that song grin

withaspongeandarustyspanner Wed 09-Jul-14 21:23:33

yes - my three year old liked singing along to Get Lucky. Wrong.

Spockster Wed 09-Jul-14 21:23:49

DD2 (8) sings that cover from Pitch Perfect: you spin my head right round when you go down....etc
DH and I just pull faces at each other and hope she forgets it soonblush

elQuintoConyo Wed 09-Jul-14 21:29:23

Does anyone remember "put your ass on my face, I love the way your pussy tastes, don't stop, wiggle wiggle" ? About 1994. And Short Dick Man?

There has always been vile shite about. I don't listen to modern stuff anymore (small child, no need). I'm sure there'll be awful lyrics around in 2026!

withaspongeandarustyspanner Wed 09-Jul-14 21:30:04

I miss Adam and the Ants and Shakin' Stevens. Or maybe they had filthy lyrics, too and I just didn't notice.

withaspongeandarustyspanner Wed 09-Jul-14 21:31:12

I don't remember that elQuintoConyo - but I was at University, which might explain it.

BreeVDKamp Wed 09-Jul-14 21:34:15

At one of my friends' birthday parties, we were about 8, and that 'I wanna have sex on the beach' song was playing just as all the parents arrived grin ha! Also we used to sing 'I'm horny, horny horny horny' all the time, having no clue what it meant.

TortoiseUpATreeAgain Wed 09-Jul-14 21:38:56

There are some distinctly dubious Adam and the Ants album tracks, certainly...
