The B&Q DIY book - it makes DIY look easy when it's bloody complicated and can lead to household disasters.

Any others you would ban from your house?

Sparklingbrook Sun 25-May-14 10:58:43

Cookery books mainly. grin Much gnashing of teeth and it not looking like the picture.

DIY in this house=Destroy it Yourself. sad

We're going on a bear hunt angry
It sounds like there should be a pretty rhyme to it but it's the ugliest sounding book to both read and listen to. It should be banned from the world.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis Sun 25-May-14 11:18:54

Glad this is lighthearted, was getting hoicky. grin
Every single twatting mr overly verbose man. I was so pleased when they could read them alone (and discovered how shite they were)

elQuintoConyo Sun 25-May-14 11:24:41

The 'how to raise your baby/toddler/teenager' books we've been given. To the bonfire with you!

Agree re: cookery books. DH has a huge Italian cookbook that has NEVER been used in the 16 years we've been together, yet he refuses to let it go. It's massive and takes up too much space.

The Disney-themed books we have also been given. MickeyfuckingMouse and all that politically incorrect saccarine crap sets my teeth on edge.

Sparklingbrook Sun 25-May-14 11:25:24

Any Annabel Karmel books. She still gives me the rage 14 years on...

strawberryangel Sun 25-May-14 11:25:39

All the Thomas the Tank bollocks. All the 'really useful engine' shit smacks of putting the working classes in their place.
<may be overthinking>

Greydog Sun 25-May-14 11:27:30

Yes - Strawberry - known in our house as Thomas the bloody sanctimonious Tank Engine

strawberryangel Sun 25-May-14 11:27:37

Oh, yes, all the Disney books which are basically the movies written down. No actual effort with the writing, just 'this happened, that happened and so on'. I teach year 7s with a better writing style.

blahblahlala Sun 25-May-14 11:29:16

No I still feel very hoiky, banning books is just not on, choose not to read them.

But 'my favorite colour is yellow' could do with a slight singe

Sparklingbrook Sun 25-May-14 11:32:14

Why blah? Some books are really terrible. grin

Scarletohello Sun 25-May-14 11:33:39

Caitlin Moron's How to be a woman. I actually threw it across the floor in disgust. Mindless rubbish ( IMO )

kim147 Sun 25-May-14 11:34:19

DIY books are dangerous for relationships. They give the impression that jobs look easy when they should be left to professionals.

Remembers the "taking the radiator off the wall incident" on a Saturday night.

Piratejones Sun 25-May-14 15:15:29

Mr men and little miss books.

TheSnazzyFeminazzy Sun 25-May-14 16:14:46

Fahrenheit 451.
Animal Farm.

And other such shit that ought to be banned.

Fathertedfan Sun 25-May-14 16:36:03

Men are from Mars women are from Venus. Load of crap

curiousuze Sun 25-May-14 16:41:12

Twilight. Teaching teenage girls that marrying and getting pregnant by age 18 to your violent stalker boyfriend is ~*~romantic~*~

ThatBloodyWoman Sun 25-May-14 16:43:41

Books on family health.

It's amazing how many terrifying diagnoses I have made....

Jaccuse Sun 25-May-14 17:01:39

On a serious note am averse to banning any book, but if I really had to;

Misery-Lit
Chick-Lit
Misery/CHick-Lit (anyone notice a theme?)
Badly written, obvious, unsexy erotica - you know who you are (yes that oxymoron was intentional)
Ghost written nonsense from intellectually challenged s'lebs.

OnlyLovers Sun 25-May-14 17:03:05

Chick-lit with loopy, glittery writing and fucking high heels on the cover.

babyproofing your marriage

So no one has mentioned SWMNBN then?

hugoagogo Sun 25-May-14 17:04:58

I agree about we're going on a bear hunt I refuse to read that shit.

Madcatgirl Sun 25-May-14 17:06:46

Lord of the rings, overly descriptive tripe. That got thrown.
Kes (as mentioned on another thread, what a pile of shit).

Not that I'd ever burn a book, but I could be tempered with Kes.
