Is a resting heart rate of 52-57 average?
Just a pondering.

treaclesoda Sun 25-May-14 10:00:28

No, that's lower than average. 60 to 80 is about average.

bigTillyMint Sun 25-May-14 10:02:37

Mine is about 48-50. I have v high blood pressure thoughconfused

notnowImreading Sun 25-May-14 10:04:46

Sometimes 70, sometimes 80. I worry about this as it seems fast at 80 - very unfit! Good to read it's within normal range. 57 seems low to me.

treaclesoda Sun 25-May-14 10:07:40

Just measured mine. 61. I'd be fairly fit and active.

I know when I was younger and took no exercise that it was very fast, probably more like 90 or 100 shock

ShatnersBassoon Sun 25-May-14 10:09:50

Mine's usually about 70.

sniffysnifferson Sun 25-May-14 10:09:51

I suspected it may be a bit lower than average.
I'm not particularly fit either! But no issues with blood pressure or excess weight either.

It used to be around 70-72bpm then I had a heart procedure to close a small hole in my heart a couple of years ago and I wonder if if they may be connected.
I do have a check up next month so might mention it then. I just didn't know if it was too low ifykwim.

kalookalay Sun 25-May-14 10:12:42

Between 48 and 51.

I had to test mine for my sport psychology course and when sitting very quietly it went down to 50, a minute later it was 49, another minute of sitting very still took it down to 48. I moved as it was getting a wee bit scary :-)

I exercise and have fairly low blood pressure - the exercise is to encourage my blood to move around a bit more enthusiastically.

Dh's used to be in the 70's - years ago, but now he runs a few times a week it's gone down to low 60s.

So, 50s actually seems normal to me.

Mine is in the 50s but only because I'm on medication to control it. Without the medication or if I'm poorly it's around 100.

Well worth mentioning, they might put you on a holter monitor just to check there's no issue.

Mine is ridiculously high, like a hamster or dormouse or something. It's usually in the 80s or 90s. When I walk, 110+

KoalaKoo Sun 25-May-14 10:27:25

Mine is 60 and I am unfit and have normal blood pressure!! Wierd isn't it, if you're unsure I would ask your gp to confirm it is all okay, but otherwise I guess there is just a v wide range of normal?

AwkwardSquad Sun 25-May-14 10:27:41

I can't find my pulse. Does that mean I'm dead?

AwkwardSquad Sun 25-May-14 10:33:12

Found it. It's about 60. Phew.

magimedi Sun 25-May-14 10:39:34

Took ages to find my pulse - but about 60 - what a relief.

I also thought I was dead. grin

Translationquestion Sun 25-May-14 10:56:11

Mine is 90-100. I'm a little overweight and not super fit but not obese / very unfit.

My heart rate is always really fast though, not quite high enough for major concerns just a bit higher than normal.

Badvoc Sun 25-May-14 11:00:28

Mine is 60

WeeBlueWorm Sun 25-May-14 11:24:13

Mine is 42 which is way too low but doctor doesn't seem concerned so I think I'm OK! Not a fitness fanatic or slim either.

spiritofthetime Sun 25-May-14 11:24:13

Mines in the 90s - crazy fast but always has been even when I was super fit.

goodtimesinbontemps Sun 25-May-14 11:27:18

Mine is always around 55 to 60 and I am overweight and unfit!

Nancy66 Sun 25-May-14 11:37:15

I reckon some of you aren't taking it properly. It's quite easy to miss a faint beat.
No offence but it's unlikely you're going to have resting heart rates lower than Olympic athletes....grin

Suzannewithaplan Sun 25-May-14 11:38:31

Mine is 44, blood pressure also low, around 95/55
I'm a bit of a health and fitness fanatic

Suzannewithaplan Sun 25-May-14 11:41:05

I take mine with a blood pressure monitor and sometimes with the garmin heart rate monitor, never just by feeling for my pulse.
I do it regularly, its always a similar reading

iirc Sun 25-May-14 11:42:58

Around 70.

Not that fit but not super lazy and overweight.

TheCSLibraryPree Sun 25-May-14 11:43:52

I'm of average weight, pretty unfit (and probably massively unhealthy too) and my resting heart rate is 50-60 bpm and my blood pressure is naturally low (below 100 systolic pressure even when many stones overweight!).

It has been known, while having a procedure on my back, for my monitored heart rate to be under 45bpm but they said it was ok as it started higher and went back up when they'd finished sticking electrodes into my spine!!
