Does ANYBODY like breaded ham?

Just got a packet of ham out of the fridge, and discovered I've accidentally bought three sodding packets of meat covered in lurid orange gunge sad

Now I've got to try and scrape it all off because it's ugly and tastes pointless. What the fuck is it for, and is there anyone out there who goes to the cold meat aisle and says to themselves, "What I really want is a thick layer of fluorescent flour paste smeared all over my ham"?

That's the best bit! Sometimes I just eat the outside breadage and throw the hammy bit away.

Me! No idea why though. And honey roast too - 'cooked' just sounds sad, I like my ham titivated grin

I totally agree with you. Nasty orange gunge!

CorusKate Sat 03-May-14 15:39:30

What if they call it prosciutto cotto instead, mrssmith? Any better?

BertieBotts Sat 03-May-14 15:40:34

I love it! It's really nice if you fry the ham for any reason as well, goes all crispy. (admittedly I can't remember why it when I did this)

BertieBotts Sat 03-May-14 15:40:53

Why or when

loulouskip Sat 03-May-14 15:40:56

I like it, and so does DD.

TCforTopCat Sat 03-May-14 15:41:01

I like breaded ham, sorry

VivaLeBeaver Sat 03-May-14 15:41:13

I love it.

CorusKate Sat 03-May-14 15:41:58

Well, anything's nice if you fry it, Bertie.

Nearly anything.

Perhaps not Spam.

mrssmith79 Sat 03-May-14 15:47:26

Probably OP blush - although I did buy a tin of Pek for dh today, the saddest of all the cooked meats and no mistake.

CorusKate Sat 03-May-14 15:48:07

I've got a sad little pile of fat, gristle, jelly and orange goo to dispose of now. I'm a meat dissector.

AmIthatSpringy Sat 03-May-14 15:48:16

We love it in this house grin

VivaLeBeaver Sat 03-May-14 15:50:48

Mmmm, fried pek pork.

BetterWithCheese Sat 03-May-14 16:18:50

My ILs buy it. It freaks me out but then again, the smoked ham I like seems to disgust them.

mmm, fried spam. With eggs and fried rice.
In Hawaii.

You could always cut the "caterpillars" off.

Oldraver Sat 03-May-14 16:29:47

When I used to buy ham from Co-Op deli they used to put the orange stuff on themselves non of us like the orange bit so used to cut it off.

On a few occasions I have caught them pre-oranging and asked for some before it was Tangoed... the server said quite a few people asked for it like that er so isnt this telling you something

TheDoctrineOfSnatch Sat 03-May-14 16:31:46

You twisted meat dissector, Kate.

CorusKate Sat 03-May-14 16:52:57

I can't understand people who just eat the fat/gristle/skin off meat (unless it's lovely and crispy). The worst is bacon sandwiches with undercooked cheap bacon. The fat is so bouncily resilient that it resists all attempts to cut through it with your teeth, so when you take a bite and remove sandwich from face, the mouthful you've taken drags the whole slice of bacon out by the fat and leaves it dangling inelegantly from your mouth, while your denuded bread hangs bereft in your hand.

My mum used to fry Spam... Believe it or not, it's marginally less rank fried than it is in it's natural state.

WeAllHaveWings Sat 03-May-14 16:58:23

Deep fried spam fritters, a Scottish staple in the 80's.

CorusKate Sat 03-May-14 17:00:11

I ate fried spam once. I didn't enjoy the sensation of hot salty jizz fat oozing all over my mouth.
