Can you see it in your area?

thegreylady Thu 27-Feb-14 22:29:52

Been told it is visible in N Yorks now!

raggedymum Thu 27-Feb-14 22:31:22

The aurora moves, right? Or is that only in timelapse film? Never seen it for real.

All I can see is a few scarce clouds underlit by the town to the north. I imagine that that light will keep me from seeing anything even if its there sad

Just been out to take a look. They're visible over the Cambridgeshire Fens. A kind of reddish splodge rather than the green ribbon like things you see in the photos from Norway, but still quite impressive. Never seen them for real anywhere before, let alone as far south as this.

MyCatIsAStupidBastard Thu 27-Feb-14 22:33:05

Just looked out the window, and its a no from Gloucester.

And let's not every get our cats together as we would end up with Fat Bastards! grin

Courtesy of a friend of mine who lives in Aberdeenshire somewhere.

Coumarin Thu 27-Feb-14 22:39:43

Wow!

I saw them in deepest Yorkshire once. Never got over it. The air felt like it was crackling.

CointreauVersial Thu 27-Feb-14 22:52:45

Couldn't see anything in Surrey. I'd love to see them.

KarenBrockman Thu 27-Feb-14 22:53:56

wow, I keep looking and I keep seeing nothing.

caramelwaffle Thu 27-Feb-14 22:55:07

Wow!
(South East - No chance)

2kids that is just beautiful.
It's on my bucket list to see the northern lights.

caramelwaffle Thu 27-Feb-14 23:02:41

Mine also AreYou

TheCrackFox Thu 27-Feb-14 23:10:24

A no from edinburgh but it is a lovely clear night and the stars look beautiful. Will try again in half an hour.

Oldraver Thu 27-Feb-14 23:17:54

I'm in West Oxfordshire so think I'm too far south, all I can see are aeroplane lights.

I was lucky enough to see them during a flight a few years ago

Theonlyoneiknow Thu 27-Feb-14 23:19:34

Yes, it's amazing in Aberdeen and the Shire tonight!

Even from the Aberdeen beach which has light pollution.

Also in the Cairngorms too.

Worth heading out to a good viewpoint of the northern hemisphere away from light pollution, then let your eyes adjust if you can!

The aurora buddy app has just peaked again

zgaze Thu 27-Feb-14 23:21:22

My dad saw them while night-fishing off the north Kent coast once, near Margate, so it's not unheard of to see them far south.

TheEmpress Thu 27-Feb-14 23:21:56

Nothing here

HettiePetal Thu 27-Feb-14 23:23:48

I'm on the south coast - not a chance sad

2kidsintow - just wow. I would give almost anything to have seen that.

firstchoice Thu 27-Feb-14 23:30:13

saw them near Edinburgh once.
Absolutely amazing. Like the pic above but BETTER grin
will never forget.

magentastardust Thu 27-Feb-14 23:43:53

We are in North East Scotland and some amazing pics coming up on local Facebook feeds. I completely forgot as would have taken the dc's ! Next time!

Dawndonnaagain Thu 27-Feb-14 23:46:50

Have just got home from watching in Suffolk!

Catsmamma Thu 27-Feb-14 23:48:34

I HAVE PICTURES!!

and a good deal of overexcitement.

TheCrackFox Thu 27-Feb-14 23:50:28

Catsmama - where are you?

Nothing tonight but I am in the SE and our northern horizons are light polluted.

About 25 years ago I saw them in London, had no idea what it was, I was driving near Wembley and assumed it was lighting effects from a concert. It was only the next day when it was mentioned on the radio that I realised.
