Please settle a trivial argument: how long does your oven take to heat up?

DH reckons our oven is fine. I say that newer ones are better.

It takes over 20 minutes to get to 200. It's electric. Some ovens are faster than that, right?

Bonsoir Wed 19-Feb-14 10:24:32

A few minutes - 3 or 4.

FlyLikeABird Wed 19-Feb-14 10:25:26

Ours has a fast heat setting and would take about 5mins. It's not a fancy one either.

Spacefrog35 Wed 19-Feb-14 10:25:56

on fast heat about 10 minutes I think.

TunipTheUnconquerable Wed 19-Feb-14 10:26:45

Ha, thought so.

It's about 20 years old.

CrazyOldCatLady Wed 19-Feb-14 10:27:09

Ours is 10 years old and would take about 15-20 minutes to get to 200.

Strawdolly Wed 19-Feb-14 10:27:48

Wow, that's fast. Our top oven is plain old electric - a good 20 minutes. The bottom oven is fan and it'll take about ten. The cooker's at least 15 years old.

I'm looking forward to getting my new cooker grin

PinkLemons Wed 19-Feb-14 10:28:56

My old cooker about 15 mins. New one less than 5 mins

BicarbBetty Wed 19-Feb-14 10:30:24

Mine's an electric fan-oven about 4 years old and takes about 5mins to heat up.

20mins is a long time. You need a new oven! wink

mrsjay Wed 19-Feb-14 10:30:39

mine takes about 20 minutes it is older though the fan assited ones take nano seconds envy

magimedi Wed 19-Feb-14 10:31:51

Electric oven (7 years old, Neff) with fan takes just under 10 mins.

But unless it's something really sensitive to temp I'll put it in while the oven heats - as the instructions say to do.

TunipTheUnconquerable Wed 19-Feb-14 10:32:51

We're moving house so I'm getting one no matter what, but dh was insisting the newer ones couldn't be any better because Science and Electricity and 7KW and blah blah blah.
It's a fan oven and I can't believe a modern fan isn't more efficient.

Impatientismymiddlename Wed 19-Feb-14 10:33:03

Ours is a modern fan oven, it takes about 6/7 minutes and beeps to tell me when it reaches the desired temp.

figgypuddings Wed 19-Feb-14 10:34:27

About 20 minutes (electric)
What sort of fast ovens do you all have that they heat up so quickly? shock

tb Wed 19-Feb-14 10:49:11

6 hours and instant.

It's an Aga.

mrsjay Wed 19-Feb-14 10:50:40

my mums fan oven is quite new it takes about 5 minutes to heat up

mistlethrush Wed 19-Feb-14 10:52:12

We had this problem - our old oven took 25mins to get up to heat (well, somewhere near it anyway) - our new oven takes 5 mins.

MummyPig24 Wed 19-Feb-14 10:53:43

I think about 5-10 minutes. I don't know how old it is because we live in a rented house. It's an electric fan oven.

TheTerribleBaroness Wed 19-Feb-14 10:55:51

Ours takes forever too. We can speed it up by putting the grill on and shutting the door, then switching it back to oven after about 10 minutes.

Kaluki Wed 19-Feb-14 10:56:29

I have gas and I never preheat it as it always seems to heat up quite fast!!
Is that wrong?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen Wed 19-Feb-14 11:16:53

Less then 5 mins, it's a new one.

TunipTheUnconquerable Wed 19-Feb-14 11:48:15

I am very impressed by all these fast ovens (and excited at the thought of getting a new one).

Shonajoy Wed 19-Feb-14 11:55:26

Used to take 40 minutes- we had a Rayburn, which I don't miss one bit. Now we have a Siemens which self cleans allegedly and takes probably 2-3 mins to heat up and beeps when temp reached.

I liked the heat of the Rayburn but don't miss the gas bills or the time.

MaidOfStars Wed 19-Feb-14 11:57:13

Electric fan oven here, maybe 8 years old. Takes five mins, if that.

TeWiSavesTheDay Wed 19-Feb-14 11:59:54

About 5 mins? It's quick!
