I'm supposed to be driving from West Yorks to Newcastle this lunchtime (with toddler and 5mo) - can anyone let me know what conditions are like with you? Obviously will check the official channels but am more wanting to know others' perspective on whether you'd drive up the A1 today if it were you.....

Thank you!!

Am just east of York and no snow at all here.

Hello doublecake !

Twattybollocks Fri 22-Mar-13 09:04:15

On the border of north/west Yorkshire and the roads are ok at the moment. It's snowing quite heavily but underneath is wet.

kim147 Fri 22-Mar-13 09:07:07

York is fine.

KissMyGrits Fri 22-Mar-13 09:13:50

Newcastle is cold but no snow.

Pootles2010 Fri 22-Mar-13 09:16:30

York is fine, as is the east of york all the way to Hull from what I can tell. Colleague in Harrogate has 2 inches (oo-err) and is working from home today.

Hi Ken!! Another mackem - I'm amazed! I usually work in Newcastle but it's my day off today :-)

WhoahThereCrazyHorse Fri 22-Mar-13 10:25:57

Thank you everyone! Going to set off in an hour or so, reckon we'll be fine!!

BearFrills Fri 22-Mar-13 10:29:07

South Northumberland here and no snow, freezing cold mind!

Wereonourway Fri 22-Mar-13 12:41:09

Double- I consider myself a mackem too. Although in County Durham I have an SR postcode and family are life long safc fans so that enough for me!

Don't envy you the drive to Newcastle every day!

OldBeanbagz Fri 22-Mar-13 12:45:24

Roads are fine here in Leeds and very quiet as eveyone seems to have stayed at home.

The A1 to Newcastle will be fine, just check TomTom live traffic before you set off.

doublecakeplease Fri 22-Mar-13 16:32:28

Hi Wereon.. I'm guessing at Seaham :-) still no snow here at all!!

ouryve Fri 22-Mar-13 16:34:34

East Durham - only the odd flake of snow but the wind is awful. I had to keep my mouth closed when I was walking to pick up the kids because it was like chewing ice cream. And the house is cold. Our house wasn't even this cold on Wednesday when we had more snow than this and no electric all day, so no heating.

ThatBintAgain Fri 22-Mar-13 16:34:43

I'm not far from York but in East Yorkshire. Bloody freezing, but no snow as yet...

ouryve Fri 22-Mar-13 16:37:47

And not Seaham, here - further South and inland a couple of miles.

And ETA, you've probably passed here, by now.

LillethTheCat Fri 22-Mar-13 16:41:24

Wish I saw this earlier as I was on the A1 from Scotch Corner to Newton Aycliffe and it was fine then. Its nothing to get excited about up here. You should have made it OK.

cupcake78 Fri 22-Mar-13 16:46:20

It's clear. Freezing cold, icy and windy but no snow lying.
