I am so fed up with the complete lack of choice of clothing for DS.
I buy most of his clothes on eBay and DM knits for him which is great as I can't find anything that
-doesn't have a jeffing applique dinosaur etc on it
-doesn't look like it's for a teenager
-doesn't have 'Here comes trouble' etc on it
-isn't a dirty brown/ green/ khaki colour
-isn't a stripy jumper
-fits properly (always too big round the waist)
There must be some clothes for toddlers that are unisex or not specifically male iyswim, and are a bit interesting. Same goes for shoes, why are they all so boring?
<sigh>
Anyone else care to rant?
JoJo Maman Bebe stuff is good for a range of colours, adjustable waists and lack of "Daddy's little monster" type crap on them - but not cheap. Wash well though...
Polarn O Pyret
Katvig
Smafolk
IdaT
Try these brands on 'Barnyard Kids' online.
I agree re the waistbands always being too big. And I am also sick of stripy tops, vehicles, stupid words (here comes trouble, cheeky monkey etc etc) and fucking dinosaurs - so tacky.
Ds has stripy jumpers (yes, we are a Breton family too
) but it's just that you have to pay through the nose for something different. As for special occasion wear... I don't want to dress DS in a suit for a wedding he wore a Hawaiian shirt to one last year so what do I do?
No to khaki/sludge and black DS hates them. No to skulls, rude slogans and handgestures on sizes for primary age boys (H&M).
Best buy this winter was an M&S puffa type coat in bright orange. DS loves it and wears it !!
Fake drawstrings on trousers are the worst. Yes M&S I'm looking at you!
It should be illegal to sell kids' trousers without adjustable waistbands.
OP - for a wedding, get a plain long sleeved shirt or polo shirt and put a tank top on it like this - look smart and you're more likely to get your money's worth out of it compared to a suit.
Anyone with big waist problems, next boys jeans usually have elastic in the sides that you can button up! Hard to explain but If you have next jeans check them! They do in all ds ones (he's in 18-24months).
I went to choose some shoes for ds this week, a choice of brown/navy/green all with velcro, ie no choice, all boring. The girls had a wide range of colours with velcro/buckles/laces. I suppose at least his shoes are practical.
Love DS in dungarees but only can get them off eBay in anything over 12months!
That's a good idea, thank you Dontmind. I'm not averse to a tank top.
Wish I could sew, draw or knit as I might start designing and making DS' clothes.... actually, it didn't stop VB did it?
Omg that barnyard kids website has such lovely clothes on it. What a great recommendation, thanks
You need to look at Bobo Choses or Smallble.com. Expensive though.
Smallable
Yes, another dungarees fan here eggso and I have found the same problem. Luckily DS is blessed with my short legs so I can wedge put him in his old ones still but not for much longer
Vertbaudet is quite nice as long as you avoid random french slogans like my DDs sleeping bag which translates roughly "little miss full of crack"
I can't find a cardi/zip up jumper for DS (14months) without a hood.
All the hoods are massive & he throws a proper fit whenever it's all bunched up behind him, or worse...on his head.
Who decided that stripes were for boys & spots were for girls?
Can't even buy a multipack of socks without at least one pair being stripy.
My sons are also super small waisted...Gap used to do jeans in 3 different waist sizes (slim, regular & husky) but they only seem to have this choice now in the US. Can find them still on Ebay though. Otherwise Scandi (h&m + polarn too big around waist for my two) but katvig, molo and ej sikke lej are great. Dutch and French brands are also great but unfortunately pricey. Look out for sales with these brands.
I agree, 2 ds' here and dreadfully dull clothes although I get a few nice bits from monsoon (on eBay) sometimes.
I find vertbaudet jeans/trousers the best for the waist problem and they almost all have adjustable waistbands. I get them on eBay as well. I think ds1 has pretty much every style they do as can't find any others that fit him as well.
pandemonium vivo barefoot have some nice shoes
DS (4) would be semi-nsked if it were not for Boden dinosaur T shirts.
Having gaped in awe at the larger selection of girls clothes for 3 years, I now have a DD. I have realised that if you take out the pink froth, there is not much left.
Ahem...<creeps in>...I used to be a boys wear designer...I will try to answer, but please don't shoot me.
Blame the big store groups, not the designers, they won't take risks, and will always stick with what has sold. Little boys are supposed to like dinosaurs, diggers, cars and aliens...so that's what we had to design...every year, every season. They also like sports and sailing stuff..hence the stripes...I'm not sure any store group ever asked mums what they wanted, the ones I supplied certainly didn't, but relied on dippy young girls as I was then to come up with ideas for ranges.
Pockets on baby wear, yes not functional in the least. But as all the above had probably never had much contact with babies it would never occur to them. They were useful to put little badges or embroideries on though.
All companies use the same or similar prediction agencies, so all ranges will be fairly similar. The Uk is not an adventurous market, unlike Scandanavia or Germany. Bland is the word for the uk high street, with no individuality....but pele won't pay for more expensive items in uk on the whole.
<creeps away quietly>
I like dinosaurs. I was really hoping DS would like dinosaurs as much as I do. I had him in dino-everything when he was a baby.
But noo, cars won out. sigh.
I like stripey jumpers, though it's been a while since he's had one.
It does drive me at at the 70-30 split with girls-boys clothing in shops. I can still mostly outfit him from Nearly New Sales, but that'll change soon!
Pele Wtf?
. I'm sure he doesn't care how much he pays! The word should have been people of course
I'm so pleased other have said about waistbands being too big! My DS is a tall-but-skinny thing (90-100 centile for height, weight more like 50th) and the trousers all flipping fall down!
