We are in e.Sussex. He has been trying to get home since 5. He is stranded on a hill near devils dyke with a tailor on a transit van half way up a hill. An arctic just ploughed down the hill and parked cars are sliding down the hill passing his van. So far nothing has hit him, he's stuck half way up. The police recommendation to stay with your vehicle??? Really??? He's going to get seriously hurt if he stays half way up a hill.
On the phone to him, dh goes omg, and then a crash and lots of shouting! Didn't hit him but several others. It's sheet I've out there what on earth is he supposed to do??

Just seen your thread - glad he's home safely.
God knows why there hasn't been any gritting - I'm over in Sompting and the roads were starting to freeze here by 5pm - bonkers!
Glad he's home. I have so many friends in the Hastings area who have spent hours getting home - in one case by walking 5 miles. I was worried when you mentioned needing to use the A27 only it was sheer hell on it tonight. DP's trains broke so I had to drive into Lewes again and I'm astonished we ever got home.

Glad he's home! My elderly father and 8 year old nephew are in a hotel in central Brighton tonight as buses & taxis were withdrawn from service. I'm only 3 miles away in Westdene but too far for them to walk. Hope they make it back tomorrow. My SIL / nephew's Mum is Alaskan so this is nothing to her !

Sadsong glad he got home. Yeah the A23 was a mess. Dh got in at 12.30, he had friends further "up", god knows what time they got in. No ploughs, no grit, took until gone 11 until he saw any emergency vehicle (fire engine). It's a disgrace IMO

Glad he got home! I am amazed by the 4X4 drivers around here, apparently quite a few were out last night.
DP and I are hoping to be in a position to do it one day but our Astra isn't so suitably equipped now! It's such a good thing to do.
I think my housemate may be out in it still. Apparently my landlady text him to say it was bad but he decided to try head home anyway. No clue where he is :/ I don't like him at all but I don't want him stuck in this!

Glad he made it back okay. Thinking of investing in a set of winter tires for next year... Good tires make such a difference. By 7 pm last night I seemed to have the only car still on the road between the a23 and hollingbury and I think that was totally due having a brand new set of (regular) tires. Winter ones would be even safer.
Still think the council were nobs for not gritting any of the roads yesterday though. What were they thinking?
