What is your earliest memory?

(53 Posts)

Sitting in the car with 2 sleeping DCs. Wondering what theirs will be.

Mine: sitting in one of the changing rooms in the shop mum worked in playing with a basket of very trendy, then, giant plastic clip on earrings. I was about 2.6.
Also waddling downstairs with a poo in my pants aged about 3, I'd been a bit too absorbed in my dolls house!

Mine is singing to an Adam Ant song while he wad on the tv, wondering when I was going to marry him, I was wearing a dress I loved which was pink and had 9 cats on it all dying in various ways and the last one was an angel cat with a halo on floating up. I remember I had a white stripe across my nose and a little star on my cheek, I refused to go anywhere without it. I was a weird child.

No you're not weird! I lived Mr Ant too! In fact I was obsessed. I used to sing stand and deliver all the time & was very confused as to why Prince Charming in story books was always blond!

Guess we're the same age.

envy re your star btw

I remember being in my room in my cot crying and crying but no one coming sad I was hysterical. Not a nice first memory.

Being dressed in a purple pinafore, pink jumper and green tights, and sitting on a raised surface for a photo.

I would have been around 18 months old, and no one ever believes me when I tell them that I remember this.

It's not a photo my mother ever had on display, and I only came across it again about 15 years ago, but I remember it being taken very clearly.

sad girl <reenforces determination not to let DCs cry>

I have very early memories. Lying in my cot with my Holly Hobbie patchwork quilt smile I remember running my hands along the bars to make a noise. I remember my dummy too, it was ditched when I was 18 months.

I have 2 but I'm not sure which is the earliest. I can remember my brother sitting in my pushchair and one of the wheels falling off. Had to walk everywhere after that.

Second, I wasn't allowed to join in with my brother's birthday party so my mum let me sit on her lap and then spilt a cupful of hot coffee all over me.

All my childhood photos are plagued by me with a white stripe and a star, or on special occasions a heart, I threw massive tantrums if I went out without them grin I had the official Adam Ant make up kit.

I think I was about 3ish, and I'm 33 now.

That dress was weird though, there was a cartoon cat being hit by a car, one being shot, one being electrocuted, I can't remember the rest, but the last one was dead. Who would make something like that for anyone, let alone a child? grin

Sneaking into next door's back garden on a summer's day through a hole in the fence and dancing around the flower bed. We moved house in March when I was three and a half, so I must have been well under three.

That was nearly 51 years ago shock

I'm 33 too. smile

The dress does sound odd...

Being told off for drawing on the wrong picture at playgroup. We were finishing pics we had started the other week and they called out "Sneezing, come and finish your picture!", sat me down with it, gave me crayons and I got started. Then they came raging over and snatched it off me and told me I was a silly girl and this was the other Sneezings picture. Silly bitch. She should have checked which sneezing it belonged to. I was 2/3 for fucks sake.

I was 3 when my little DSIS was born, I remember DM bringing her home from the hospital, she was crying and DM said its because she was hungry so I offered her one of my sweeties grin

Also remember my DB diving out of his cot when he was about 12 months so I must have been about 2.10, was horrible, he had blood all over his face, so not such a nice memory sad

My mum and dad having an awful argument and me and my brother getting in the car with my Dad. I was 3.

I realised when I was an adult that this was when they actually split up, my mum said she didn't want us and so we went with my dad. He and my step mum, who came to live with us later were lovely parents.
My sister was a tiny baby and my mum wanted her. She didn't have a great childhoodsad.

My whole aim with my 2DDs has been for them to feel loved by me because I didn't feel loved by my real mum ever.

Some sad memories sad

Mine is of waking up from a nap in my playpen at my maternal GPs house. My GM came in andlifted me out, took me to the kitchen and peeled an orange for me.

She died a month after my 2nd birthday so I must have been around 18 months.

I also remember going up the lift to visit her in hospital and eating fruit pastilles in her room. I couldnt hold all the foil bits of wrapper and was trying not to mess up the clean hospital room.

Sitting in a plastic toy box in the garden trying to straighten my legs out and almost doing it. I was probably between 18-20mths.

My sister having the Guthrie test done. I was three at the time. Also remember watching a firework in my Granny's garden it was mushroom shaped and a purply blue colour, not one that made a noise or went in the air. Don't know how old I was about three probobly.

I remember going to see my mum and new baby brother in hospital. Well, what I actually remember is a vague baby shaped lump under a blanket, and the biggest box of Smarties I'd ever seen on top of the blanket. Apparently (I don't remember this bit, but it sounds like something I would do) I just ignored my mum and the baby and ate all the Smarties.

I was 18 months old, my baby brother was 30 last month.

I remember my mum going into hospital to have my baby sister when I was 18m and being distraught at being left behind at Grannie's. Followed by the cloud of deep sadness that engulfed our home when she was stillborn. sad

Remember too the joy of my little brother being born the day before my 3rd birthday. Mostly because I had my first mega strop because my mum was feeding him and I wanted her to open my presents with me. I got my one and only smacked bum for that!

Also remember DB having his nap at the end of the garden where we lived (Lossiemouth) and his being woken by a low flying Buccaneer leaving me charging not the house squealing 'he's booing, he's booing'.
