I can't find a twitter account for LLP, has it been taken down?

wink @ secondhandrose!!!

Ah, now I know.

I can only think of 'rogered' what is it?!!!

Well said Badvoc!!!

Yeah.
I had a go at Caitlin Moran for using that word in the web chat and got a couple of posters being passive agressive at me.
Apparently her excuse was that it was what she wrote when she was 13.
My son is 9 and would never use that word.
And I have read the book, And she was writi abi how she felt at 13, it wasn't a direct quite come her diary!
<fumes>
The whole point is that it got through - I imagine - several read throughs and the editorial process and NO ONE told her it was unacceptable.
Presumably because they think it is.

I was in the pub a few weeks ago with some younger friends. I was in one bar and they were in the other playing pool. A very good friend of mine suddenly piped up and said " ....... is a f.....g r....d! I shouted very loudly through the bar " PLEASE DONT USE THAT WORD!" and he did rush through and apologise! He used it on his FB recently and i again pulled him up on it. he apologised but didnt remove the comment! hmm

I've never heard (read) an adult use that word.

Perhaps she's trying to impress a younger audience confused

Bitch? Old hag? In a thread bemoaning offensive language? hmm

timidviper Sun 10-Mar-13 16:14:27

I think one of the problems here is that, in life, you tend to mix with people in similar circumstances to yourself. If I was not on Mumsnet there is a chance that I would not be aware how totally offensive words like that can be as it is not something that I would come across. I would probably just think "not very nice" as opposed to thinking that is offensive to many people.

She probably lives in a comfortable little bubble and does not realise the offence these words can cause. I hope she apologises, or at least learns better.

I'm constantly shocked/surprised when people use the R word. We have a 'friend' in his 70s who I've heard using it .... I've pulled him up, but he just didn't seem to understand what I was saying angry.

She should be thoroughly ashamed of herself.

Lottie, I hope your Tweeting and Facebooking prompts her into a massive apology. But she just shouldn't have said it in the first place.

Thanks for tweeting her, I was v shock when I read what she'd said.

Could it be that she doesn't get commissioned because there are lots and lots of writers and many of them are better than her? Just because you've had dramas on before doesn't give you an annual booking.

Bump!

Bump!!!

Oh dear! I used to like her, she is very entertaining when being interviewed.
Is it possible that perhaps she isn't having stuff commissioned because <<whispers>> it isn't very good?
I had hoped before I read the link that she was describing their methods and procedures as being r******d in the original and correct sense - that is - slowed down, and delayed, suggesting that they are outdated and old fashioned..but no, she is using it in the deliberately offensive way. Nasty and disappointing.

I have vented on her FB page too!! wink

Thumbwitch Sun 10-Mar-13 11:06:24

Shocking behaviour from her! Has she been spending time in the USA, where they still use it flagrantly and often? Not that it's really an excuse.

Disgraceful. I don't know I'd it's cause I'm tired, but I didn't know what word you meant at Irish! You should've seen my puzzled brow.

She sounds like a twisted, entitled old hag.

PedlarsSpanner Sun 10-Mar-13 11:04:33

Disgusting language, ugh.

Stupid bitch. Not you wink

I thought that too MammaTJ!! hmm

A woman like that should have a better vocabulary at hand to describe things and organisations.
