I am pretty embarrassed to be asking this, but I will be in London soon, just for a day, and I'd really like to go to tesco ( I don't live in the uk any more and I really miss it!!). I don't know London or the rail system very well at all, but is there a tesco I could go to that wouldn't be too tricky to get to? I will be flying into Gatwick and then travelling to somewhere near Kings Cross for a meeting.

OP, you will be gobsmacked by how much Tesco has taken over nearly every High Street and corner shop in the country since you were last here. I was in central Manchester the other day and there were two of the Tesco Express shops within less than 10 minutes' slow stroll from each other. Not to mention all the other things they're involved in : credit cards, mobile phones, insurance, opticians, currency exchange and I'm sure there are plenty others.
There's been a bit of a backlash against them in the last decade.
Enjoy your visit.

I didn't know they were all over the place till I read this- I had no intention of stirring up ill feeling towards supermarkets!!
Sainsburys does seem good, my mum sends me lots for the children from there.
Their clothes are much better in general than Tesco. And their home stiff is fab. We're on a real budget but their stuff is so lovely & regularly has big discounts.

Hmmm, looks like Sainsburys may have to feature in my shopping dash then. Thank you

Agree completely with slings about Sainsburys clothes and home stuff.

Sainsburys kids clothes have a lot of choice. Get lots of DD's nursery stuff there.

m+s seem to have a shop in every station, if you don't want to go searching for a shop. there is a large tesco's near covent garden, a coop opposite charing cross station and a tesco near trafalgar square. i would imagine there are supermarkets near all the main stations.
Don't feel bad OP, when my inlaws come over from abroad one of their requests is always to visit to a Tesco Extra
OP I totally understand only with me it's the US and Target.
I am in California in July and am planning at least two trips to Target while I am there.
I think you'll only get clothing and home stuff in a big Tesco Extra.

There's a tesco opposite Gloucester road tube station I know that. And there's also one on Southampton row.

why not do an online order with 'click and collect' at one of the stores on your route? Then you get your stuff and can do something more interesting with your day.

Specials suggestion is brilliant.
