Just wondering how often other people see their inlaws? We have fallen into a pattern of seeing them 6 or 7 times a year.
We live about 2 hours drive from the inlaws and we either meet halfway or they come here (well mil does, mil and fil divorced) Tbh, it's enough for me and dh. He speaks to her quite frequently and I call her less regularly.
I foresee as mil gets older and the children do, we will go and visit her / them instead.
Does this pattern sound too little? We do not have overnight visitors as the house is too small btw.
We used to see ours about once every two weeks when they were alive. MIL was wonderful, liked a drink and had some good stories (worked in showbiz) and FIL was a bit more reserved but sharp as a tack.
He died of cancer nearly ten years ago, MIL died two years later when DD1 was a year old.
The DDs don't miss them TBH, as they only know them from family photos and the pictures that FIL painted.
We used to see the ILs every couple of months for a weekend as they lived 2 hours away. They recently moved to the same town and its lovely. I stop off with the DCs after school once a week, and sometimes we see them at the weekends. It's nice to see them more frequently but for shirt periods than a whole weekend every two months!
We don't really ask them to do pick ups etc as my FIL has been clear that he doesn't want to set up regular obligations, and I think that's absolutely fair enough.
