DH has had the snip, I'm in my forties I can't be pregnant can I?

I'm about four weeks late.
Last year I was having very heavy periods and was tested to see if I was menopausal and found not to be. My periods have been no more than a couple of days out over the last year and absolutely on time before that. I'm 45, so even if something had changed with DH having the snip surely I'm too old now?
I don't know how the menopause works, could this be it even though only a year ago it wasn't showing?

Too scared to do a test.

Do a test.

You were premenopausal while you still had periods. You have probably moved into the full menopause
You are not through the menopause until you have had no bleeding at all for a year. But vasectomies are not perfect. And 45 is not too old.

Think of the blood tests as an MOT: you weren't showing signs of menopausal fanged then, doesn't mean you can't be now.

Vasectomy failure rate is very low, and most post-vasectomy PGs are the result of unprotected sex before the "all clear", though recanalisation does happen.

You're going to have to POAS, or live with the uncertainty.

Oops - much as I like the idea of a fanged menopause, I meant "menopausal changes"

How long ago did your DH have the snip?

Iteotwawki Sun 03-Mar-13 09:15:06

I know someone who is due in a few months, mid forties, husband had vasectomy 12 years ago. Extremely rare, can happen! Do a test, put your mind at rest (or not!).

SurelyThisCannotBe Sun 03-Mar-13 09:22:20

Ooh iteotwawki noooo. DS2 is ten and DH had the snip when he was a baby, we had three dc's very close together a 13 month gap and an 11 month gap so after DS2 was born we were very very careful.

I havent POAS since I found out I was of with DS2 and never thought I would ever again. I'm going to have to aren't I?

Love the menopausal fanged

I had this YEARS befoe I hit the menopause, regular as clockwork, then one month 4 weeks late felt pg , all the usual symptoms, despite us having not had sex for ages. By the time I got around to POAS we had gone through

Fuck Noooooo

sigh Well what will be will be

Acutally one more would be nice.

Whaddya mean I'm NOT???? Waaaaaaaah!! grin

GP said you start getting these hormonal blips a you get older, as I was only just 40 I was a bit sad

Only one thing for it- POAS!

everlong Sun 03-Mar-13 09:30:05

Try not to panic OP it's very very unlikely you are PG.
Do a test to rule it out.

jchocchip Sun 03-Mar-13 09:31:15

What everlong said!

AThingInYourLife Sun 03-Mar-13 09:33:47

Hope it's OK smile

Fanged menopause grin

ShipwreckedAndComatose Sun 03-Mar-13 09:34:05

yeah, I think its very unlikely too. Do a test though, that will put your mind to rest.

FlowerTruck Sun 03-Mar-13 09:41:10

Do a test, but let us know the result. nosey

milk Sun 03-Mar-13 09:47:19

Stop teasing us! POAS!!!

SurelyThisCannotBe Sun 03-Mar-13 09:54:14

I will do one, you've talked me into it, just to ease my mind but I need to go and get one. The supermarkets open at 10, I'm still lazing in bed (as I have older dc's not a baby!) so I'll go and get one in a bit.

Of course you vipers will want to know grin.

AuntieStella Sun 03-Mar-13 09:55:30

And, if not PG, you might want to consider getting another sperm screening done for DH, to discover or eliminate the possibility that any swimmers are finding a way through.

LoopDeLoops Sun 03-Mar-13 10:04:51

Hope it works out the way you want smile

grobagsforever Sun 03-Mar-13 10:12:27

It's extremely unlikely op. Any chance you had a light period that went unoticed?

Place marking!

RobotHamster Sun 03-Mar-13 10:14:31

Its very unlikely - exactly the same thing happened to a colleague, she was not pg.

Friend of my dad's was snipped in 1983 after 2 ds's
Fast forward to 2000, wife was pg again..
And it wasn't the milkman,he had rejoined.
Sadly he died of cancer when the dd was 10.sad

SurelyThisCannotBe Sun 03-Mar-13 12:15:43

I can't go till later

Kyrptonite Sun 03-Mar-13 12:23:42

Do a test. At least it'll put your mind at rest. Or in complete panic.

Euphemia Sun 03-Mar-13 12:24:31

I don't know about fanged, but my perimenopause is red in tooth and claw. hmm
