Most people belong to neither of the groups that you describe.

bingodiva Sat 02-Mar-13 12:27:54

none of it is real its the internet...

I'm not a fence sitter- I think there are some great people on here and on the whole it's a wonderful community but I'm amazed at the bitterness, chippiness, whinginess and paranoia of a sizeable chunk of posters. I think they're in the minority but more vocal than the nice ones

cakesonatrain Sat 02-Mar-13 11:22:27

Thousands of posters, there will be practically a full continuum of opinions on almost everything.

Sugarice Sat 02-Mar-13 11:14:44

I'm mostly the former but have traces of the latter in me when my hackles are raised.

I've never done thank you cards if a phone call can do equally as good a job, imo!

Wishiwasanheiress Sat 02-Mar-13 11:05:57

It's the divide between who I want to be/believe I am and if pushed to the wire how I really behave.

I'd love to remember to write thank you cards. I often dream I have. Then reality kicks in and it's been 6wks since the gift was given so its too late and I then don't bother.....

Mumsnet in "people are different from one another in ways that can be hysterically exaggerated" shock revelation.

Schnarkle Sat 02-Mar-13 10:52:52

Yes I do think I've left out the silent majority of people in my OP.

Delighted I didn't start this in AIBU or I'd have been handed my arse on a plate

DizzyHoneyBee Sat 02-Mar-13 10:52:03

I think Mumsnet is like most of society, nice and friendly on the surface but when the chips are down, most people don't really give a monkeys about other people.

WhoPaintedTheLion Sat 02-Mar-13 10:51:20

I think mostly mn is made of people who:

Say thanks for presents one way or another.
Think frozen onions are a bit pointless if they have the time to chop their own, but think they are great if they don't.
Will make a packed lunch if it's required.
Don't like other people taking advantage, being rude etc.

Why polarise it? Most people take the middle ground in most things, surely?

Then there is the third camp, of kind caring individuals, who give their time and energy to help people regardless of which type of mner you may think they are!

VerySmallSqueak Sat 02-Mar-13 10:48:52

I think we're all a bit more staunch in the written word.

I think it's more like we write a few thank you's-and forget a few.
And cry "please do not step on my land".....

How about the third set who are aghast at people not agreeing with something and who then go and effectively start threads about it?

Schnarkle Sat 02-Mar-13 10:42:52

whoops downgrading my numbers to thousands too as I'm a sheep

Ledkr Sat 02-Mar-13 10:41:07

Yes but that's the same in rl isn't it?

Schnarkle Sat 02-Mar-13 10:40:53

Yes Mumsnet is made up of millions of faces, that's true. But if those millions of faces were to go choose to live in 2 different houses which would be bigger?

I'm pushing you off that fence there Salmotrutta grin

WhoPaintedTheLion Sat 02-Mar-13 10:40:01

Mumsnet is not a sigle person. All human life is here. Well. All human life with a computer.

N0tinmylife Sat 02-Mar-13 10:39:57

Or possibly thousands, maybe its not as big as I think it is?

Iamsparklyknickers Sat 02-Mar-13 10:39:44

Depends what time of the month you're asking with me.

I'm just a constant adventure into the unknown! grin

N0tinmylife Sat 02-Mar-13 10:38:20

There are millions of faces of mumsnet, as its made up of millions of individuals!

TobyLerone Sat 02-Mar-13 10:38:03

I have bits of both. Mostly the second one, though.

Salmotrutta Sat 02-Mar-13 10:37:53

I'll sit on the fence.

lisad123everybodydancenow Sat 02-Mar-13 10:36:56

All of it.

Schnarkle Sat 02-Mar-13 10:35:39

On one side we have the people that write thank you notes for everything, consider frozen onions the work of the devil, lovingly prepare packed lunches for their partners, children, neighbours children, the postman or anyone that wants one without complaining, will mind your children if you need and no favour is too big an ask.

BUT with the merest scratch to the surface, a Mumsnet full of rage and snake-neck is revealed... "don't dare step on my land" "I'll do what ever I want when I want to" "Don't look or talk to me while you serve me at the supermarket" "Don't dare correct ME or MY child or I'll call the police"

Which one is real?
