It's so sore and raw feeling and paracetamol isn't really working.
I had flu like symptoms earlier in the week which have gone but still left with %*\%\£© sore throat.
Any tips for best pain killer to use or something more topical to help me get though the weekend are very welcome.
If you happen to know off the top of your head if they're suitable for a bfing mum that would be great.
Not asking much am I?
Thanks in advance.
My mil swears by gargling 20ml cider vinegar with 20ml water.
A sore thrust probably wants medical attention
If you're bf think you can only have paracetamol, glycyrol or hot water with honey and lemon

Toast with just honey on?
Cough sweets that are not strepsils.

Try gargling with soluble aspirin, it sometimes works for me.

Thanks poached
I did have a load of pain killers after DS was born so more than paracetamol must be ok, just not sure what will work best. I know aspirin not allowed.
Have found a couple of slightly elderly cocodamol in a drawer, wondering if they might help.
Sorry Nora if I gargled vinegar I'd hurl. I don't even like it on my chippy!

The side effects from co codamol aren't worth it, IME.
What about one of those throat sprays?
Stay home too you'll only be infecting others & making yourself worse.

Step away from the co-codamol. Apart from anything else the stuff doesn't work...
Honey. Orange juice. Sucky sweets, like mint humbugs. Ice cream if there's a freezer to store it in.
Sorry the hot whisky honey and lemon cure is unavailable. It doesn't actually cure the sore throat, but you no longer care.

co-codamol worked for me. or pholcodine (?) cough syrup?
but best thing was halls soothers and hot lemon and honey (with a dash of whisky when I wasn't taking any other drugs!). and hot ribena was brilliant too.
I'm also bfing btw, so these were all things that were safe for me last week!

Soluble aspirin gargled and spit out and two ibuprofen
Might be worth a trip to out of hours too as it might be an infection

i would second gargling with the soluble aspirin. Also a teaspoon of honey - it is naturally antiseptic.
Can you not just call in sick?
get well soon
Soluble paracetamol to gargle on is what dps dr recommended, I do like one of them throat sprays personally.

I'm actually off to work in a distillery...drinking the spirit is frowned on though.
Will get some honey and lemon down me.
Thanks all. Cocodamol in drawer.
Grate some root ginger into the honey and lemon, it will really ease no open up your throat, and is very soothing.

A spoonful of manuka honey always does the trick.

Was off work but felt much better, throat just annoying today.
If it's super sore, a teaspoon of cayenne pepper in warm water, gargle and spit - for goodness sake spit!! Horrible, burny and tastes foul - but it is so good on a sore throat, it just numbs the lot!

Try Tyrozets. I've used them whilst bf on the advice of a pharmacist. You can get them from behind the counter in Boots/chemist

Tyrozets are marvellous. I also like hot soluble aspirin.
Tyrozets - numbing effect. If its too sore and you're struggling to swallow tablets as pain relief, take Nurofen liquid (kids stuff) - just up the dose to an appropriate amount for you.
As someone who has suffered from tonsillitis for years, and had a tonsillectomy as an adult, I've had more than my fair share of sore throats - nothing is a failsafe, but rather than the advice of cold drinks, I always swear by hot drinks, tea as hot as you can drink it to take the edge off (not a fan of honey, but if you stomach it - have some).
