MrTumbles This was about ten years ago, when the net wasn't what it is now...it would have made life so much easier!!

BadMissM it would, wouldn't it. I know there are quite a few MNers in Germany, but the ones who post on the overseas section are quite widely scattered around the country - some of them do meet up with each other though (not me) and of course the odds are higher in a big city. Surprised there was nobody in Paris wanting to meet! Ripshire did you post the KL meet idea on the overseas board, I looked (not that I am anywhere near Malaysia), I guess it was some time ago as I couldn't see anything. A lot of cities have ex-pats fb groups now, and there are other ex-pat forums although some of them are very quiet and others very niche/ clichey or bitchy... There are on-line ways to find other English speakers in most cities now (not so much for rural locations) although only a relatively small % of people seem to use them.

Cake is clearly a good idea :-D

MrTumblesBavarianFanbase I lived in Paris and the Vendee, and it would have been lovely to find other English-speking mums in the area.... they were there, there was just no networking.

It would be good if there was an MN Local site for other countries...for mums living abroad. It would also be great for overseas mums to get an idea of what's happening back home. For me at the time, would have been a lifesaver!

WingDefence Join the club! I am pregnant with DC2, and somehow in organising a local meet-up, I'm now LA for North Lancs! (although I should really be Morecambe/Lancaster and North Lancs....)

LE/LAs thread sounds a good move!

AllPurposeNortherner Cake? Did you mention cake? Ideas swapping sounds a good idea...

WingDefence Thu 14-Mar-13 10:44:34

APN you are in a different posh colour. Yes, any excuse for cake would be great!

Can you set up a LE&LAs thread on the local site?

AllPurposeNortherner Wed 13-Mar-13 23:40:01

Wing - we probably should all get our heads together for some ideas for Preston and Lancashire - Me and the LAs and maybe some other people who are interested in the kind of admin side of things. It would also be a good excuse for cake...

Hello everyone, by the way, I'm Preston and Lancashire :-D

LadyMaryQuiteContrary Wed 13-Mar-13 19:16:56

grin You'll all do a smashing job.

WingDefence Wed 13-Mar-13 18:47:34

BadMissM I may well be becoming a local ambassador for East Lancs (MN don't have an area for Ribble Valley) but apparently they need them for SW and SE Lancs too, if you are in either of those areas?

I can't believe I came on here originally to moan and I now appear to have signed up to be a LA when I'm 3 weeks off having DC2! confused grin

ripsishere Wed 13-Mar-13 00:16:48

Have started a thread offering a meet up in KL. No one replied. Maybe I do smell...

BadMissM excellent idea! Do you know there is a Living Overseas section of MN, absolutely inexplicably hidden away under Homes and Gardens, so that I'd bet most people find it via googling (like I did) rather than via the MN Talk menus. MN HQ said a while ago that they were going to move it somewhere more sensible, but they haven't yet wink

Actually, having been a British Mum living abroad, what about adding an expat/anglophone Mum abroad section? Even by country, so you could just find other English-speaking mums near you?? Just an idea, think it would be great for Mums abroad out on a limb...

LadyMaryQuiteContrary Mon 11-Mar-13 10:42:16

sad Come and move here, there's loads to do on my local sites. grin

Why don't you start a thread, rip?

Sorry, MrTumbles. Could you start something for the people where you live?

ripsishere Mon 11-Mar-13 06:59:48

My old local one is dead.
Where I am now doesn't exist

The local sites are UK only, so no reason to go there for me sad

LadyMaryQuiteContrary Sat 09-Mar-13 20:30:58

smile

NewAtThisMalarky Sat 09-Mar-13 20:29:27

Actually, scratch that - turns out there is one, it just won't find it by postcode, I have to search on the map.

LadyMaryQuiteContrary Sat 09-Mar-13 20:28:04

sad Can you join the closest one? They would really love to hear from you.

NewAtThisMalarky Sat 09-Mar-13 20:11:02

There is no local site for where I live.

Tee2072 Sat 09-Mar-13 09:49:54

Start a new thread!

Try previewing and then posting, should clear that message.

wigglesrock Sat 09-Mar-13 08:43:37

I tried to put a park listing in Co Antrim and it told me Access Denied in red and everything grin I don't know if it's something to do with the area box being on Belfast which I mentioned earlier. Be honest it's this Kindle Fire again, I've broken it again haven't I grin

I'm much too young for the thread in Local, I don't qualify for 15 months grin

We try and go away for the day every weekend and I know most places are opening fully at weekends from next weekend. We've been to Carnfunnock and Castle Ward over the past 2 weeks.

Tee2072 Sat 09-Mar-13 08:08:27

I just saw your second post, Wiggle.

You can post in any local you want.

You going to come chat with me on the local boards? ::hopeful::

Tee2072 Sat 09-Mar-13 08:07:16

Did someone say Belfast? ::squees::

There isn't a way to put an attraction that isn't within Belfast that I am aware of, although you could just put it and put in the notes that it's not actually in Belfast.

Or you could put it in it's actual area (sorted by county) and then put up a chat thread about it?

What's the attraction? ::nosy::

wigglesrock Sat 09-Mar-13 07:40:12

Right, I have one more question, which had I asked first blush would have probably saved both of us lots of time. If I'm a member of Belfast local can I post in Co Antrims local page?
