Fuck. She was only 23.
Dd is 11 and was in tears all the way home. It's a small rural school, very close-knit. Dd says that everybody was crying. She's shut herself away in her room and won't let anybody near her. I didn't want to force anything so have let her do it for now. don't know what to say to her. I know there's nothing anyone here can do but it's so bloody, fucking awful.
This has outed me, but the only other person I know who uses MN is in the same position.
Please, please drive carefully.

Oh gosh, how very sad
. I'm afraid I have no useful advice, just wanted to express my sympathy. I would leave your dd be for now. She will come and find you when she needs you.

oh how very very sad. I hope your DD is ok, a horrible thing for a child to experience. Have the school suggested counselling?
When I was not much older than your DD I witnessed a pupil dying at school. It was awful, so many students witnessed it and no one had any help or support (it was a long time ago).

Oh my goodness. How horrible. I am sure your daughter will come to talk to you in time. Just tell her you love her and will be there if she wants to talk. Poor thing. Poor teacher.
God how awful
Poor woman and poor kids.

Thank you. We found out from another parent about 2 mins before dd got home and just didn't know what to say she got in. We made some clumsy attempts but dd asked if we could not talk about it. She tends to dwell very deeply on things and all she said was that she wants to be like her hamster, who is small and fluffy and doesn't know about anything
.
Such a fucking waste. She was just starting off in her life. The children loved her.
Oh how awful
When your daughter wants you she'll find you, listen to her and hold her. Talk to her about what's happened if she wants to. 11 is a hard age without having a bereavement and teachers are someone you become close to.

How awful - so sad for your DD and the teacher's family.
Oh how awful. My DS3's Head Teacher died in an RTA on her way home from school, years ago, and the grief stayed with us and the school for a very long time.
Will the school offer counselling?
All you can do when DD lets you is hold her and tell her it's OK to be angry and upset and agree how unfair the world is.
How terribly sad, and like you say a waste of a young life. For your DD, just give her a little time and see if she will talk about it. Hopefully school will offer grief counselling

MOS, there is a note from school saying that counsellors will be available. as it's such a small school the staff themselves will also be talking to the children as they think it would be better. It's a very small community and the teachers will all be devastated. I used to work there, although I left before this teacher arrived, and hate to think what my former colleagues must be going through just now.

That's dreadful. Did they send the children home early?

Oh your poor dd! I'm sure she knows you're there for her and is just trying to get her head round the news.
Hope she gets the support she needs from the school too.
So sad

It's ok, my dd did this recently when a friend from ballet died from a sudden illness. About two days later she wanted to talk about it along with death in general. I took up tea and biscuits while she wouldn't speak.
She will also find great comfort in her friends as they can talk about their feelings to each other.
How terribly sad.

Bunbaker - no, they sent them home at normal time (1.45 on a Friday). Dd says that the children knew something was wrong as the teachers were crying, but the children weren't told until later in the day. I think they spent the time before home time having an assembly to break the news. Can't imagine what it must have been like.
What a terrible thing to happen.
When I came out of ds's school the other day a teenager had just been hit by a car on the bloody pedestrian crossing right outside the school.
There are too many road traffic accidents.
