I am going to make a hen from fabric that has a little pocket in its bum to hold a golden hard boiled egg. Such fun.

I can't believe its nearly a year since I heard the immortal words "I ain't being funny right, but Fee-o (sic) Walcott writes books"

Arthur Dent from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy would be easy, pyjamas and a dressing gown (over warm undies/tights). But maybe it has to be a book the child knows?

Football Kits are always banned on World Book Day even though DS has the Match of the Day Annual and David Beckham's books.

Just remembered that not only will we need something red/ funny for comic relief, the easter bonnet and decorated egg task will be fast approaching no one tells you all this when you are up the duff. I love it really.

ChallyC Sarah Crewe from "The Little Princess" by Frances Hodgeson Burnett, she travels from India to London, any pretty frock and a bow in her hair if possible. It would be nice book to read with her actually.

If you have wellies Christopher Robin or Percy the park keeper...
otherwise the prize outfit one year was a year 6 boy who was somewhat eccentric who turned up in normal clothes wearing a flat cardboard box with A design on......
Yes he was a " character IN a book" LOL

In the past we've had the worst witch, captain underpants and Harry potter. Op does the costume have to be space themed AND from a book?

I suggested to ds (5) that he went as Harry and the bucket of dinosaurs as its his own clothes, beach bucket and some dinosaurs we have already plus the book.
I said with the money saved on a costume we woud go to a pizza place for tea. He agreed
There is no theme other than it must be a book.

Biff or chip or whichever one has scruffy hair and the stripy to. Stick a toy dog under their arm as Floppy and there you are.
DD is going as DEATH from Terry Pratchett's discworld, in an old black hoodie of mine with "Capey" front and back added in black fabric, and a scythe and sand timer.

Oooh thanks Allinone. I need some inspiration.
DS was D'Artagnan last year and this year he has to be something from a fairy tale so same costume, some triangles of furry material stuck to the hat and a tail and he's Puss in Boots!

The best one I did was for my yr6 dd, Athena from Percy Jackson- stuck paper wings on baseball boots, tshirt with camp half blood on and a sword/shield borrowed from a friend.
The main problem is the books my DC like to read are full of 'everyday' characters.
A red ribbon in a girls hair and taa daa, shes 'Matilda'.

yy NaturalBlonde I did that one year, got an orange t-shirt and drew on the Camp Half Blood logo with a sharpie. Pair of jeans and there you go - Percy Jackson.
George from Famous Five a recent good idea I saw on here. Long Khaki shorts, toy dog, canvas bag with torch, compass, can of ginger beer... sorted.

Cushion pad, my ds also going as where's wally & I managed to find a 3 pack of t shirts from sainsburys for £8 (there was also a 25% sale on but not sure when it ends) & there's a red & white stripe t shirt in the pack. Worth a look if you have a sainsburys nearby.
DS has gone as Greg from Diary of a Wimpy Kid - stripy tshirt & jeans and as Skullduggery Pleasant - skeleton mask from Hallowe'en & a suit he already had.
DD had a cat costume from Hallowe'en so was Puss in Boots & was Cinderella last time with a blue party dress.
Our school does it's book day in November for some reason, not sure why - but it means there's usually cheap Hallowe'en stuff knocking around.
My sister was Pippy Longstocking one year & my mum plaited a shaped hanger into her hair to make her plaits stick up in the air!

Agreed last night that dsd is going as Dobby the House Elf. Ripped pillowcase over leggings and t shirt, an old sock in a book and some dirt rubbed all over.
