How long were you ttc before you got a bfp?

(95 Posts)

Just reading that on average it's 6-12 months before bfp- realising how lucky we are/have been as dd1 took 1 month, dd2 ( due in may) took about 2-3 months.

How long was it for you?

One month apiece, all 4 pregnancies (2 early mc, 2 DSs!). Made all those years of careful contraception seem worthwhile! grin

DS1 2 months
Ds2 1 month

So, so lucky. I wish it was the same for everyone.

2 years, 8 months. Reversible (how fortunate we are) fertility problems!

2nd month of no contraception but 1st month looking at dates. We are both mid twenties. Very lucky and surprised! Still early days though so not counting my chickens...

28th cycle of ttc, with the assistance of IVF. We are medical mysteries (i.e. "diagnosis" of unexlained infertility). I'm in the early weeks now and still terified it's all going to go wrong.

With ds it took 7 months. But for me that was only 3 cycles due to pcos.

For dd my cycles were a lot more regular so only 4 months. Still 3 cycles tho! smile

Both times the cycle we got lucky was the one where we religiously dtd every other day without fail. ;)

18 months for DS. Worth the wait.

23 months, with IVF. Then I had a miscarriage. sad

All ended ok though, a year after that pregnancy I was pregnant with our now 5 year old, and then when she was 13 months old our second IVF cycle post her birth resulted in a bfp which turned into my 3.5 year old

But it was a bit crap in the beginning.

dc1: 6 months in total, but three months once I'd got the hang of my cycle (quite irregular, fairly short luteal period)

dc2: probably getting on for a year, but for the first 3 months of that I was still bf, and then I had gallbladder problems and was on loads of painkillers for a while. Had a bit of trouble working out my cycle again, but once I got that sorted plus an op to remove my gallbladder, I conceived the following month. smile.

When we first started trying with dc1, I immediately assumed that my cycles would be 28 days with ovulation around day 14. How wrong could I be?! I was anything between 21 and 38 days, and ovulation is quite late for me - around day 17-18.

I found the book "Taking charge of your fertility" invaluable in trying to work out what was going on, and I used to use www.fertilityfriend.com/ to log everything. I didn't go down the whole temp taking route, but a knowledge of the 'signs' certainly helped me recognise what was going on, iyswim!

10 or 11 months for DD (DC1) - seemed like a very long time, especially for a first where you don't know if it will ever happen.

So, thought we better get on with trying for DC2 in case it took a long time again, or even longer. Ended up pregnant with DS in less than 3 months, so pregnant again before DD was 2.
Very lucky ...
< blows luck in your direction in case you need any smile >

4 years but we got there.

MummyPig24 Tue 26-Feb-13 15:56:11

We didn't ttc dc1, that was unplanned but wonderful all the same. With dc2 I conceived on my 2nd cycle ttc.

Chocaholics Tue 26-Feb-13 15:58:45

DC1 just over a year and a half, DC2 2 months, we decided to start trying for DC2 as expected it to take ages so were pretty amazed when it didn't!

DC1....3 years (pcos)
DC2....1st month we tried

DC1 (and 2, them being twins and all!)- One year, ten months. Felt like forever.
Dc3- Two years, one month.
Dc4- Ten months.

One miscarriage before my twins. I had been trying for two years six months, had regularly had checks, GP etc; and suddenly it happened. I was one of the very, very, very lucky few until 8wks in.

Long times I guess for each, but compared to a lot of people, not long. I have no medical problems, and I always eventually seem to get pregnant. But I've learnt to start trying quickly if I want more DC because nature will provide the age gap for me it seems, not just waiting and then a month later, boom.

tumbletumble Tue 26-Feb-13 16:05:31

We were lucky - third cycle for DC1, first for DC2 and DC3.

Some people have such a tough journey don't they ? sad x

MrsJohnDeere Tue 26-Feb-13 16:11:06

Ds1 8 years
Ds2 1st month of trying
pregnancy 3/MMC I wasn't trying, wasn't obviously ovulating, and didnt even have sex that much

Zoidberg Tue 26-Feb-13 16:11:52

A day, or it might have been two. My Mum always warned me I'd be like her and that she "got pregnant at the drop of a hat".

DD was a surprise so dont know.
This time it took 6 months (due in a couple of months.)
