Has anyone in RL ever figured out who you are from posts here?

Has anyone ever been "sprung" by their posts here by someone they didn't want to?! hmm.

I think one of my friends may have done ekkk!!

A while ago I had a bit of a rant and now I have had a rather suspicious PM (I have since name changed).

Nope. But I did recognise someone I know in real life on here. I think they've name hanged now, but I never outed them or let them know that I knew.

It wasn't a friend/family member but someone I knew through work.

No, (as far as I know grin) but I often change certain things ie: DS becomes a DD or DC etc!

I do recognise someone I know from real life here but she is incredibly open and quite clearly uses her child's full name and other identifying factors.

Hollygolightley Sun 24-Feb-13 20:35:08

I think I have recognised someone.......

ghoulelocks Sun 24-Feb-13 20:36:00

Because of my work I have recognised a few people, but have consciously avoided their threads and posts from then on because it can be awkward. They've all been lovely, but I feel like I'm prying/ dishonest.

O yes, several times. I am quite careful what I post, though. What with this being the Internet and all.

DiscoTent Sun 24-Feb-13 20:39:33

I've recognised a couple of people, one I've told her when I've seen her (under a couple of names) because I like her and wouldn't want to snoop without her knowing. The other is slightly more complicated...

I figured out someone in RL, her username is one she uses for twitter, email etc too, she may have namechanged now as she posts links to mumsnet on fb but I haven't seen her around for a while. She may also have guessed I am on here, but we have never mentioned it.

Yes - but I'm obvious to some if you read my posts. grin

CremeEggThief Sun 24-Feb-13 20:41:16

Not yet....

OrangeLily Sun 24-Feb-13 20:42:27

I've recognised someone but their posts were 100% innocent but I haven't told her that iv recognised her. She's not on much anyway.

EarnestDullard Sun 24-Feb-13 20:42:45

Not that I know of <eyes thread suspiciously> Although I'm fairly open about details of my life (where I live, DCs ages etc.), so I'm probably quite easily recognised.

I did recognise someone though, a friend-of-a-friend, sort of.

If someone recognised me I'd prefer them to let me know, actually.

Tee2072 Sun 24-Feb-13 20:43:07

Probably since I use the same name all over the 'net. And my name, without the numbers, is something I am called in real life.

I also use my son's name a lot. And my husband's.

We don't care.

ReluctantBeing Sun 24-Feb-13 20:43:12

Gossip, I had a pm today asking questions about me and MN looked into it and sender has been banned. I wonder if it was the same person.

Spyrofan Sun 24-Feb-13 20:43:41

Not yet.....and hope no one has recognised me either!

Gossipmonster Sun 24-Feb-13 20:45:08

Oh really reluctant?!

Pagwatch Sun 24-Feb-13 20:45:09

One person recognised me and shrieked 'ooh I think I know who pag is' on a thread.
She is just lovely and I didn't mind at all. But our attempts to contact each other since then have failed so my joy at finding an ex-collegue/mate was short lived.

FrankWippery Sun 24-Feb-13 20:46:35

Yes I have. It was under my old name and she PM'd me to say hello as I used to live near her in Spain. Couldn't give a stuff if anyone recognises me tbh, I don't go to any great length to disguise anything.

I've recognised a few people I know, including one of my SILs.

Spyrofan Sun 24-Feb-13 20:47:03

Actually I think I might name change just Incase!! Lol.

FitzgeraldProtagonist Sun 24-Feb-13 20:47:19

Yes, I have been. But by and large don't care. I have also spotted a woman from our village. I haven't told her. She gets a lot of support here. I wouldn't want to take that away.

MrsCosmopilite Sun 24-Feb-13 20:47:49

Not as far as I know. And I'd like to keep it that way!

ReluctantBeing Sun 24-Feb-13 20:47:54

Yes. The poster had only ever posted four times, over the last three years.

Gossipmonster Sun 24-Feb-13 20:49:01

The post was about 3 years ago and they messaged me earlier this year ......

Fleecyslippers Sun 24-Feb-13 20:49:39

Ex and OW, hence my very frequent name changes.

Gossipmonster Sun 24-Feb-13 20:49:45
