If a lady says no, she means maybe. If she says yes, she's no lady.
It's at a local craft stall along with the bless this mess and home is where the heart is sort if stuff.
It caught my eye and I was shocked, but late to collect dd so have mulled it over. The more I think of it, the worse it seems. I don't feel I can ignore it and be true to what I believe.
Now the stall is probably manned by some min wage bod (like me!) and I don't have a gripe with them.
Is there a good way to say ' have you actually thought about what that means and does the stallholder want to sell it along side inspirational, loving and cheesy momentoes?
Hopefully Shop of Dreams will reply soon.
Sophie we don't want any money or discounts from you, we just wanted you to remove the plaque, which you have done, so thank you. I hope you use better judgement next time when purchasing merchandise for your store, no matter how 'profound' or 'pretty' something may be.
I would also like to know what Sophie thought this "famous saying" meant.
I've just emailed Shop of Dreams-
Hi there,
I was just enquiring as to the thought process behind stocking your 'when a lady says no' plaque?
It appears to be not only an incitement to rape, but also a show in slut shaming.
Am I missing an alternative meaning that makes it less offensive?
I look forward to hearing from you.
I'll post if they reply
Thanks Sophie. Out of interest how did you interpret it?

jeez
just because its a famous saying, it doesnt make it right or any more acceptable to use!
just to make a point: there are tons of famous racist sayings out there... bet they wouldnt use any of those
It's a famous saying, that looks pretty and sounds profound? WTAF??? There are no words.
I have had two replies from Baytree Interiors, from two different people.
"Hello
Hill Interiors are the importers and distributors of the message plaque in question.
Baytree-interiors.co.uk is one of our websites.
Just to let you know, when we bought these, we were blissfully unaware of any implications. We stock over 600 different designs amongst a larger collection of interior accessories and bought it because it looked pretty and sounded quite profound. As you are obviously aware, this is a famous saying, not something we have come up with.
As soon as we were made aware of this, we have set the item to run down, so that when the current stock has gone, they will not be re-ordered and will just disappear.
Apologies for the stress this may have caused, as long as you understand it was a total accident, and we did not mean to cause and harm to anyone.
Yours Sincerely.
Julian Potter"
I also got this reply:
"Hello,
Thank you for your message.
Hi, we appreciate your concern over one of our products. The company is going to address this as soon as possible and make a statement on the mumsnet forum that I believe you have visited us from.
Best Regards
James"
It will be interesting to see what statement they make!
I have Edu but I haven't had a response yet.
I just don't know what sort of person would want that in their home.
Has anyone emailed Bay Tree or Shop of Dresms? I haven't done those two yet.
Oh Hec I thought that was just a given!
DinnerWitch it's down to 2 pounds! That's more than they've reduced any other sign so they're obviously not selling at all...which is a relief!
FFS.
Just so people are still aware, this site:
www.baytree-interiors.co.uk/item/3362/a-lady-says-no-plaque.html
and this site:
shopofdreams.co.uk/lady-says-no-plaque
are STILL selling that plaque!!
Oh that's definitely the same person. How coincidental that she is back just in time to write a rather passive aggressive grovelling response after the other companies' professional replies were posted.
meant to say, the use of '' round rude and controversial are what gives it away. Here is someone trying to say what they think will undo some damage but who still feels like the injured party.
i must be very cynical because my first thought was that it's the same person who has seen the response to their first reply, seen how the other companies replied, realised that their unprofessional response is not good for business and has come up with this as a way out.
I saw a mother's day ballon in a party shop today which said 'The maid's day off' on it - I nearly went in a stabbed the bloody thing with a pen!
Matt's much more professional and to the point
Get the impression Daisy just not a very professional company really
hmm, that's better
'rude' amd 'controversial' still a bit PA though - still having a strop. Not professional.
Further update sent as a personal message, I've deleted some personal bits.
My name is X and I am the MD of Daisy Interiors. I can only hope you understand why I have not published this on the Facebook page.
Personal bit I deleted
I have returned to this rather large issue.. I left the business in what I thought were the capable hands of my team whilst away and it seems they have taken rather a different strategy than I would have to resolve the current situation.
I can only apologise for the recent comment posted on Facebook. I have looked into the thread and emails sent and its upsetting to see how much this issue has escalated. We are all so different and people deal with things different to others so I am sorry if the post was a little 'rude'.
I have called an in-house meeting this morning to get to the bottom of this and may I assure you that the product has not only been removed from the website and any other of our sales sites but I would like to tell you that I have personally made sure that the product has been removed from the warehouse and made it's way to a skip.
If there is anything else on the site in which you also thing is 'controversial' please let me know and I would be only to happy to look into it personally.
Daisy interiors is a relatively new but extremely busy addition to our Daisy Enterprise and we endeavour to meet all customers needs and provide outstanding service to all.
Please accept my sincere apology again and if there is anything in which you think we could more please do not hesitate to let me know.
Many thanks
Vintage style is great... But this is a vintage sentiment and outdated!!!
Thank you!
