From Piano Man

"It's nine o'clock on a Saturday
The Regular crowd shuffles in
There's an old man sitting next to me
Makin' love to his tonic and gin

He says, "Son, can you play me a memory
I'm not really sure how it goes
But it's sad and it's sweet and I knew it complete
When I wore a younger man's clothes."

You can just picture the scene. Which lyrics are really poignant for you?

I am a big Billy Joel fan, his songs often have stories, which I love.

But, other than Billy Joel, I would choose lyrics from Wonderwall,

"I don't believe that anybody feels the way I do
About you, now"

ElectricSheep Sat 23-Feb-13 21:24:50

Hold onnnnnn, hold onnnnn....

Seabright Sat 23-Feb-13 21:25:39

And for sad lyrics, the two Robbie Williams songs, Come Undone and Feel have some heart wrenching lyrics.

"I've built walls,
A fortress deep and mighty,
That none may penetrate.
I have no need of friendship; friendship causes pain.
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain. "

Simon and Garfunkel . Poets and bloody good singers.

"I can see it in your eyes, I can see it in your eyes,
You'll be alright."

Wires by Athlete, IIRC about a baby born prematurely? In any case applies to all kinds of hospital scenarios with children and makes me sob each time I hear it!

Just after I had DD I was given a Paulo Nutini album.
This line always made me so sad:
"It was in love I was created and in love is how I hope I die"
because deep down I knew that my relationship with DD's dad so flawed. Less than a year later we split up. That line still makes me sad for DD sad

Fire and rain by James Taylor,

Just realised you asked for favourites. Sorry blush

undervalued Sat 23-Feb-13 21:29:54

'Dressed to kill, and guess who's dying' any guesses?

DuttyWine Sat 23-Feb-13 21:30:13

" But I always thought I'd see u baby just one more time again" is the line I think. It's about his girlfriend who died I think

"She's a tear that hangs inside my soul forever" Jeff Buckley

"I need something strong to distract my mind
I'm going to look at you till my eyes go blind" Bob Dylan

Oh and who could forget....
"I don't want to see a ghost,
I'd rather have a piece of toast" Desiree confused

And I need you more than want you,
And I want you for all time.

Wichita Lineman - Jimmy Webb

Brothers and sisters
When they insist we're just not good enough
When we know better
Just look 'em in the eyes and say
I'm gonna do it anyway
I'm gonna do it anyway

Something inside so strong - my class love this song as it has special meaning for them.

TheOneWithTheNameChange Sat 23-Feb-13 22:01:50

I get on a train and I just stand about, now that I don't think of you.
I keep falling over, I keep passing out when I see a face like you.
What are we going through?
I'm going to melt down.

Wendy I could die with you on the street tonight in an everlasting kiss

MelodyBaker Sat 23-Feb-13 22:06:42

Don't give up, you still have us
Don't give up, we don't need much of anything.

Makes me weep for my best friend who passed last November. If only you were still here. Your boys are so wonderful x

"when you get what you want but not what you need" coldplay
It played at a friend's funeral, who was alcoholic and died from alcohol-related stuff. The song tears me apart but reminds me of a very intelligent, warm person with a wicked sense of humour.

So many!

"Lights will guide you home" always sticks with me. As does "Yes there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run there's still time to change the road you're on."

tigerdriver Wrap your legs round these velvet ribs and strap your hands 'cross my engines! grin

MelodyBaker Sat 23-Feb-13 22:13:33

I will try too fix you.
If only I had tried harder maybe I would have realised your heart was failing. The symptoms breathlessness and heart flutter. I should have known and told you to get help

twigsinajug Sat 23-Feb-13 22:16:13

I thought your choice extremely poignant BigGiantCow

ButTheButtons Sat 23-Feb-13 22:21:36

But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
Now I'm getting older too

Landslide by Fleetwood Mac. Makes me feel bit wistful about getting older.

All the things I should have said that I never said
All the things I should have done that I never did
All the things I should have given but I didn't
Oh darling make it go. Make it go away

This Woman's Work by KAte Bush

Many many more!

littletingoddess Sat 23-Feb-13 22:25:23
