2 nights away in December, unlimited budget - ideas?

DH and I are celebrating a very special anniversary in December, just a few days after Christmas (ages away I know)

We would like to go away somewhere for 2 nights and I thinking that as it just for 2 nights, we should stay in the UK (although am open to suggestions)

However we are completely at a loss for where to go so any suggestions welcome!

We don't really have a budget and we don't even have any ideas about whether we want posh spa hotel and a weekend of lounging around and eating, or a cool city where we can go to the theatre/dinner/bars/shops etc.

Thank you!

Go to Lapland for Northern lights/ice hotel (try weekends a la carte) or Reyjkavic instead.

Ooh yes Le manoir! Or Babington house?

Bailiffscourt in West Sussex www.hshotels.co.uk/bailiffscourt-hotel-and-spa/. Lovely hotel in the countryside, but a short drive from Arundel and Chichester.

Babington House is amazing. We've stayed in many lovely places but it beats them all. Great food, lovely rooms, amazing service, fab spa.

I've stayed in Clivedon and Bovey and found both a bit disappointing. Lime Wood is nice. What part of the country are you in?

I'd second the ice hotel, I was looking at the website yesterday, a dream destination and two days would be long enough

Barcelona - DH and I went the week before Christmas and loved it. So much to see and cool places to eat too.

I'd go skiing and stay in a lovely chalet.

I've been to Chewton Glen - it was excellent. Fantastic service, but not too 'in your face', lovely setting (you can walk to the sea through the grounds), wonderful food. I was taken there for a birthday treat and my lovely partner even took a suite rather than a room - it was really luxurious. Lots of extra touches because it was my birthday. If you go to this sort of hotel, make sure you tell them it's a special occasion!

Alternatively, for something less expensive, but also fab - on another birthday we went here - www.stretebarton.co.uk/ - a gorgeous b&b near Dartmouth.

Dp and I would probably do something like theatre one night followed by a music gig the following night. The city would be dependant on who/what was playing where.

I second Reyjkavik. DH & I went there a couple of years ago in December for a couple of nights & it was wonderful. It's so pretty with the Christmas lights up, there's good shopping, some amazing restaurants, & lots to do - or you can just go & lounge in the Blue Lagoon.

I would choose from 3:

Either bath spa hotel:
www.macdonaldhotels.co.uk/our-hotels/macdonald-bath-spa-hotel/

It Limeood in New Forest:
www.limewoodhotel.co.uk/

Or go where the stars go when they are in Edingburgh and stay at The Witchery by the Castle:
www.thewitchery.com/Intro-Suites.html

It depends what you are wanting from the stay though. The above 3 are all very luxurious.
The bath spa and limewood are good it you want pampering.
But the witchery is great if you want something completely flamboyant and amazing food to go with it.
