This is the stupidest thing Ive seen in some time!

Today i was driving behind a zafira. It had a flipping huge sign in the back (think the "baby on board" style diamond shape but about four times larger) that said....
"Keep calm and carry on breast feeding"

WTAF?! Why? What does this have to do with driving your car? Why do I need to know you breastfeed? Pointless vision obstruction.

IAmLouisWalsh Fri 22-Feb-13 16:30:06

Not while driving, surely?

BeCool Fri 22-Feb-13 16:33:39

have you never heard of car stickers? The stupidest thing? Really?
Many vehicles don't even have rear windows and are perfectly safe to be on the road.

Bit of an overreaction perhaps?

usualsuspect Fri 22-Feb-13 16:35:14

Beyond naff.

CocoNutter Fri 22-Feb-13 16:36:06

I'm getting heartily sick of all the 'keep calm and...' stuff. It was mildly amusing at first but now it's just irritating.

KirstyoffEastenders Fri 22-Feb-13 16:36:26

Might be a campaign thing, tbh those 'look at me I have a precious child in this car' 'baby on board' signs really wind me up but if someone is trying to campaign about breastfeeding in public then it's not so bad.

KirstyoffEastenders Fri 22-Feb-13 16:37:29

Agreed though, the 'keep calm' bullshit was always shite

best car sign i saw was 'mother in law in boot'

arf

richardsimmonstanktop Fri 22-Feb-13 16:40:05

Anything preceded by 'Keep calm...' makes me rage.

Would love the 'mother in law in boot' sign though!

MerryMarigold Fri 22-Feb-13 16:41:30

Did you breastfeed?

richardsimmonstanktop Fri 22-Feb-13 16:44:20

What's it got to do with whether you breastfed or not? confused

peanutMD Fri 22-Feb-13 16:45:07

Keep calm slogans are naff regardless of what they are followed by.

My Uncle works for the fire services so I also have a deep hatred of those bloody pointless "baby on board" signs because they are almost never used properly.

KoalaFace Fri 22-Feb-13 16:45:11

"Mother In Law In Boot" arf arf arf

I need.

Keep Calm merch is so naff it turns me off whatever its promoting. "Keep Calm And Eat Food" - I'D RATHER STARVE!! (Cuts nose off the spite face)

But the breastfeeding sentiment doesn't bother me really. It's a bit meh but whatever.

KoalaFace Fri 22-Feb-13 16:47:00

*To spite face...

Grrr very annoyed with myself.

Pancakeflipper Fri 22-Feb-13 16:50:26

Peanut - how are you supposed to use those baby on board signs?
I actually am clueless to know what the point of them is.

FunnysInLaJardin Fri 22-Feb-13 16:51:33

naff mcnaff. Talk about a stealth boast

richardsimmonstanktop Fri 22-Feb-13 16:54:02

Pancake - There is an urban myth that 'baby on board' signs are used to alert emergency services to the baby.

In practise emergency services look for things like carseats as indicators for children, because generally the person driving isn't going to take the sign down whenever they're driving a child-free car.

thefirstmrsrochester Fri 22-Feb-13 16:54:49

Have a deep hatred for all car signs - little princess on board, powered by fairy dust, my other car is a Mercedes etc. Only one to raise a smile is in a car which is parked outside my work declaring 'the next thing on my 'to do' list is your ma'.
Yes and all the 'keep calm' merchandise has an oddly opposite effect I find.

BeCool Fri 22-Feb-13 16:55:46

I think the OP is saying it's STUPID because of the size of it?

On second reading it does seem the BF element has enraged her too - but it's hardly stupid.

Agree "Keep calm ...." etc is well overdone nowdays.

I did see one of these Baby I'm Bored T-shirts though and it made me smile.

BeCool Fri 22-Feb-13 16:57:39

now I automatically read ALL "Baby On Board" signs as "Baby I'm Bored" and smile

Booyhoo Fri 22-Feb-13 16:59:14

totally agree with the 'keep calm' haters. it had a point the first time i saw it about 5 years ago but now it is everywhere. would be happy to never see it again.

Pancakeflipper Fri 22-Feb-13 17:04:25

Ta Richardsimmonstanktop .
Ummm cos obviously everyone always removed the sign when driving without the child in the car don't they? So they are pointless aren't they?

richardsimmonstanktop Fri 22-Feb-13 17:14:03

Exactly, for that reason they are pointless and useless.

StrawberriesTasteLikeLipsDo Fri 22-Feb-13 17:34:13

Glad its not just me...

But to clarify i disliked it due to its overly large size (mahoosive and positioned so you truly couldn't see well), keep calm bollocks and also as BF has eff all to Do with driving! I just thought it was really naff.

To the poster who asked how I feed my children- I'm not looking for a debate of FF / BF so i shan't answer that thanks

MerryMarigold Fri 22-Feb-13 20:59:40

I asked because of your extreme reaction which seemed a little defensive to be honest. What do most car stickers have to do with driving? Capital FM, RSPB, National Trust etc. etc. - you put what you're passionate about or enjoy.
