Just read on another thread that they should start sleeping through at 3-4 months. Dd didn't until about 18 months and now at 25 months comes into our bed at 4am once or twice a week so I feel a bit annoyed now that that's not normal. On other hand am full of hope that 7 wk old ds will follow the 3-4 month thing.

There is no normal - honestly.
DS1 didn't sleep through until he was 2 and a half years
DS's2 and 3 slept through after 6 or 7 weeks.

3 months, sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear! She just naturally started sleeping from 8-8 then and has pretty much stuck to that routine since, unless really poorly and she'll wake a few times. She is 3.7 now. We've been very lucky.

You can't exactly send them back where they came from if they're not sleeping through at 3-4 months. What hours are required to be classed as 'sleeping through'?

No sign as yet of sleeping through at 5.5 months although does only wake for feeds usually, tends to go 7,11,2,5,7. So not too bad.

Still waiting at 18 months here with DS and DD slept through reliably from 15 months. I also don't think there is a normal but there is a reason all the parents I know look knackered

Oh, if 8-8 is what you need to be classed as sleeping through, my DS managed that by the time he was 7. Years not months.
Five hours is sleeping through by baby standards. But in adult terms... Nearly two? I think.

Har hollow laugh
Dd 3.5 years old never sleeps through.
Ds 1 yr old wakes at least twice, often 4 times a night.
Not yet and they are 6 and 7 years old.
DD age 7 is in the process of being diagnosed with ADHD though and her 'sleep patterns' are horrific. DS only wakes once, creeps in to my bed without disturbing me and goes back to sleep.

"Sleeping through" for babies is deemed to be a period of five hours.
By that measure, both mine did it a few times around 5 months, promptly stopped again around 6 months and didn't do it again till about 11 months.
Sleeping through in the sense of 7-7 - 15 months for both of them, and then not continuously, just sometimes. By 18 months DD1 was doing it more often than not. DD2 has just hit the 15 months sweet spot, and I'm happy enough wit what I've got.

Ds1 16 weeks although for a few months now he's been getting up and coming in our bed, he seems to have stopped that again the past week or so. He's 3.10yrs now.
Ds2 16 months. Although again, he's been waking up in our bed for a while. He's 2 1/2yrs.

DS is 2 1/2 years and on a good night needs me to go to him 6 times. DD is 3 1/2 months and on a bad night needs me to go to her once. I don't think a "should" or an "average" is meaningful here tbh.
Child 1 - 11 weeks.
Child 2 - 2.5 years.
Same parents, same parenting. Go figure...

11pm to 6am from birth to 5 weeks. 14 hours by 3 months. I spent most of my time waiting for him to wake up.

DD at 6 weeks,DS at 9 weeks. Trust me,nothing I did,just really lucky
DS1 was 13 months when he slept a full 12hrs, prior to that though he had two night feeds which dropped to one and then that gradually got later and later until he had none. He was/is a brilliant sleeper (night feeds were done in 10mins and back to sleep).
DS2 is 11 months and only waking about 3-4 times a night instead of every hour, he won't be sleeping through anytime soon!
3 year old has just started sleeping through. It has taken 3 sodding years!

18 months. Just as I was becoming hysterical at thought of the '18 -21 month sleep regression' I heard was coming.
He rushed about so much and could eat properly so that he couldn't fight sleep any more. I used to run him to the point of exhaustion then give him a jacket potato, cheese and warm milk. Works for me and worked for him. Plus a rock solid bedtime conditioning routine he was unable to resist.
Prior to 18m woke for bf every 3 hours round the clock, same as when newborn just less screaming and reflux vomiting. It nearly broke me.
DTwins - about 12 weeks.
DS3 - 16 months and still waiting.....
12 weeks for both dc, that was going bedbbefore us and waking at 7am so probably 9 hours.

All my babies slept through (12-6) by 5 weeks old. After that they really only woke up when teething or poorly.

Ds1 at about 16 weeks
Ds2 the same but reverted at about 9 months and still (5 yo) often wakes in the middle of the night. He fell out bed and woke demanding water last night, which is typical.

9-10 hour stretches by 3 months with both of mine. Teh odd blip since and DD2 is only 4 months now.
Ds1 2 and 3 were all around the 2 year mark. I'm hoping ds4 will be much earlier. All my friends have had good sleepers from around 4 months old.
